Chapter 1009 What Should We Do

"Really? That's what he told you?" Alexander shot back, his eyes dripping with sarcasm, like he was mocking Ava for being so gullible.

Ava just nodded.

"Ava, come on," Alexander said, "you still believe him? He was feeling guilty and made up an excuse to bail. How else do you explain him running off the exact day I was gonna hand over the evidence to the cops?"

"Yeah, it does seem like a crazy coincidence," Ava admitted. "But how would William know you had the video? The footage shows him destroying all the cameras he thought were there. How could he know about the hidden one? And if he did, why didn't he run sooner? Why today?"

"I wanna know how he found out today too," Alexander fumed, unbuttoning his shirt in frustration, his chest heaving with anger. "Someone must've tipped him off. Maybe he's got a mole close to me."

"Alexander, William..." Ava started.

Alexander cut her off, pointing at the computer. "Are you seriously gonna say he wouldn't? You saw the video. First, he denied it and lied, saying he was just with bodyguards for protection. But he was trying to kill me. The evidence is clear. So, do you still believe him?"

Ava was speechless, not knowing what to say. She hadn't expected things to turn out like this.

Alexander rubbed his aching forehead and sighed. Whether it was a coincidence or someone tipped him off, it didn't matter now. Even if the Stellaria police opened a case, they couldn't catch him.

William was a sly fox, running away at the perfect moment.

"Ava, if I'm right, he won't dare come back to Stellaria," Alexander said. "If you don't believe me, let's bet on it. If he wasn't guilty and scared of getting caught, why would he run now? I'm still in Stellaria. How could he feel safe leaving us alone together? It had to be a threat to his life that made him leave."

Ava lowered her head, staying silent for a long time.

"Ava, deep down, you still want to protect him," Alexander said sadly. "When I said I was calling the cops, you didn't tell me he had left. Were you trying to buy him some time?"

Ava looked up. "Whether I bought time or not doesn't matter now. You don't need to think that way. William left hours ago. Delaying a few minutes wouldn't have changed anything."

When she heard Alexander was calling the cops, she got anxious. She did want to protect William, but she didn't know he had really done such a thing.

She hadn't intentionally hidden the fact that William had left. Even if she had said it a few minutes earlier, it wouldn't have mattered because William was already gone.

Feeling drained, Alexander said, "This is how it ends. There's no point in doing anything now."

Alexander finally had a chance to nail William, but William ran, and it was all for nothing.

"He's really lucky," Alexander mocked.

"So, Alexander, whether William left by coincidence or had a spy, it doesn't matter. He's gone now. What are you gonna do?" Ava asked.

Alexander looked at her. "What do you want me to do? Just give up?"
