Chapter 1144 Utter Despair

Ava's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly rushed forward, covering his mouth with her hand.

Her eyes were filled with intense panic. "Don't say things like that."

He had a son, yet he was talking about ending his bloodline.

Moreover, she didn't want Alexander to die a horrible death either.

Alexander grabbed her wrist and suddenly pulled her into his arms, lowering his head to kiss her lips.

Ava's eyes widened, and her mind seemed to explode in an instant.

She hurriedly extended her hands, pushing against his shoulders, trying to shove him away, but his body wouldn't budge.

Ava didn't dare struggle or shout too loudly, fearing Bishop would hear and come out to stop them.

He was injured and had a fever; his body couldn't handle the strain and he definitely wasn't a match for Alexander.

Ava could only resign herself, closing her eyes and letting him kiss her.

After a long while, Alexander finally let her go. He held the back of her head with one hand and wrapped his other arm around her waist, his breath hot.

Ava forcefully broke free from his embrace, raising her hand to slap him hard, gritting her teeth. "You're shameless."

Alexander's eyes reddened. "Don't you want to know if I harmed him? I told you I didn't, but you didn't believe me. I had to swear, had to say such harsh words, but you wouldn't let me. Ava, tell me, what do you want me to do?"

He was on the verge of being driven mad by Ava.

"I want you to stop looking at me like that. I want you to stop holding out hope for our relationship. We're divorced, Alexander. I don't love you like I used to. It's impossible for us. I hope you understand that."

The feeling of despair spread from head to toe, reaching every cell in Alexander's body, and for a moment, he almost fainted.

Ava turned and wiped the tears from her face. "I don't want to argue with you here. Sunny is still sleeping, and Bishop has a high fever. I'm begging you."

Alexander suddenly laughed, stumbling to the sofa and sitting down.

After that, neither of them spoke.

Until two doctors arrived, both dressed in plain clothes, carrying a large box filled with medical supplies and important medications.

They went into the room where Bishop was already delirious with fever. They treated his wounds and gave him an injection.

Before leaving, the doctors left some medicine and instructed Ava on how to administer it.

After the two doctors left, Alexander said, "He's fine now. I'll be going. Don't worry, no one will know about tonight."

Alexander turned to leave.

"Alexander," Ava called out to him.

"What do you want to say now? That you don't love me anymore?"

"I believe Bishop's situation has nothing to do with you. I'm sorry for doubting you before, but I hope you understand. I know you don't like Bishop. When he left the hospital in Stellaria without a word, I felt it had something to do with you. You must have said something to him."

Alexander turned around. "Yes, I told him to leave you because I thought he was dangerous and would drag you down. Even if you hate me for it, I don't care, as long as you're safe."

"I won't hate you for that. I know you meant well, but I also want to tell you not to interfere in my matters with Bishop anymore. We're divorced. I've never interfered in your affairs with Madison."

If it weren't for Madison, things between them might not have become so strained, but there was Madison.

Alexander had slept with Madison, and that was something Ava couldn't accept. The man who claimed to love her had slept with another woman.

What was that supposed to mean?

And up until now, she had only ever been with Alexander.

Alexander was divorced, a grown man with normal physical needs, but since he had Madison, he shouldn't be so obsessed with her. What was that supposed to mean?

He was divorced, and so was she.

He could have Madison, and she could love another man.

Even though that man might not have appeared yet.

From the moment Ava knew Alexander had slept with Madison, she had completely lost hope in him.

He couldn't control his heart, nor his body.

Alexander nodded, utterly dejected. "I understand."

Sunny suddenly started crying in the room.

Hearing the noise, Ava was about to go over, but Alexander was quicker, rushing into the room and hurriedly picking Sunny up.

"Sunny, what's wrong? Did my voice wake you up?"
