Chapter 1257 Recognizing Relatives

Mandy breathed a slight sigh of relief.

"Ava, no matter whose child he is, this child is part of our family."

"Sunny is not part of your family," Ava said. "He is my child. His last name is neither Smith nor Powell."

"Ava, I know it's hard for you to accept this news right now. I won't force you to acknowledge your heritage immediately. I'll give you time to think about it, but you are my granddaughter after all. No matter what, I think we should stay in touch."

"I don't think that's necessary," Ava said coldly. "Even though I now know who my parents are, it makes no difference to me. My child and I will live our lives well without you. Since I am an illegitimate child, a shameful secret, let's keep it that way forever. Don't let anyone know. Ms. Powell, you should leave."

Hearing Ava's words to dismiss her, Mandy seemed a bit flustered. "Ava."

"Don't call me that," Ava said, controlling her emotions. "We are not that close. Don't forget you tried to take my child away before and were very aggressive. If it weren't for the accident that revealed I am your granddaughter, you probably wouldn't have let me off so easily."

Mandy didn't know what to say for a moment. After a while, she finally explained, "What happened last time was my fault, but it was because of that incident that I found you. So, in a way, it was a blessing in disguise, wasn't it?"

"It wasn't a blessing for me," Ava said bluntly. "Please leave."

Ava's attitude was unyielding; she didn't want to talk to Mandy any longer. She couldn't believe her own background was like this.

Mandy also realized that her sudden visit and revelation were indeed abrupt. She wanted to acknowledge Ava, but it couldn't be rushed.

"Alright, I'll leave for now, but I will contact you again."

Ava was about to say not to contact her, but Mandy seemed to anticipate this and said, "No matter what, I won't give up easily. You've been wearing that bracelet looking for family, and now that you've found them, isn't that a good thing? Stop running away."

"Enough, don't say any more," Ava growled. "You..."

The doorbell rang again.

Ava's first thought was whether Alexander had come back.

She walked to the door and looked through the peephole. Outside stood a man holding a bouquet of flowers; it was William.

Ava opened the door.

William, smiling, immediately handed her the flowers. "Ava, I bought these for you."

Suddenly, the smile on William's face froze. He saw someone standing in the living room—it was his grandmother.

"Grandma, what are you doing here?"

William had just asked the question, but quickly connected the dots.

Mandy stepped forward and said, "William, since you're here, I don't have to go find you. There's something very important you need to know. Ava is your uncle's child who was lost outside. She is my granddaughter, your cousin. I know you were married before, but that was when neither of you knew the truth. And Ava has told me that you two didn't have a sexual relationship, so no major mistake was made. But from now on, Ava is your cousin, so you need to control your feelings."

Mandy said everything in one breath, clearly and concisely informing William.

William, holding the flowers, stared at Ava in a daze, speechless for a long time.
