Chapter 402 Because I Love You

Throughout their journey, Mia couldn't help but notice a shift in Ava's demeanor. "What's the matter?" she asked, a note of concern in her voice. "Did something happen to upset you?"

"No, it's nothing," Ava replied, offering a faint smile. "I'm just feeling a bit nervous."

Mia was certain that whatever was troubling Ava had nothing to do with William. Even if Ava chose to confide in her, it wouldn't change anything. In fact, it might even earn her a reprimand.

"There's no need to be nervous," Mia said, trying to lighten the mood. "Unless, of course, Alexander got utterly drunk last night, looking pitiful, all because of something you said to him."

Ava's heart skipped a beat at Mia's words. She turned to her, a question in her eyes. "Are you saying he got completely drunk last night?"

Mia nodded. "Yes. He showed up at my place in the middle of the night, completely wasted. He was so drunk he could barely walk straight, and he was rambling on about how you hated him, that you didn't want him. He kept trying to call you, but he was so drunk he couldn't even hold his phone properly. When he realized you had blocked him, he completely fell apart."

Ava listened to Mia's words, disbelief etched on her face. "Mom, did he really behave like you're describing?"

"Why would I lie to you?" Mia replied, a touch of impatience in her voice. "I didn't tell you this morning, but after giving it some thought, I decided you should know. After all, he was in that state because of you."

"Mom, I don't understand," Ava said, her voice filled with confusion. "He came to my place last night, and we made everything clear. I'm sure he doesn't love me. Maybe you misunderstood. Perhaps he got that drunk because he was worried about Isabella."

"Whether he got that drunk because of Isabella or because of you, I know what I saw," Mia retorted. "Why won't you believe me? He was calling out your name the whole time. You say he doesn't love you, but I don't believe it. I'm convinced he loves you!"

Mia was growing frustrated. Their relationship was moving at a snail's pace, and it was agonizing to watch.

Suddenly, Ava felt a surge of nausea rising from her stomach, a powerful wave of discomfort that threatened to overwhelm her.

She grabbed the seatbelt in front of her and exclaimed excitedly, "Mom, stop the car!"

"What's wrong?"

"Stop the car, I'm going to be sick!" Ava covered her mouth, struggling against the waves of nausea.

Mia quickly pulled over to the side of the road.

Ava unbuckled her seatbelt, flung open the car door, and rushed out, doubling over by the roadside to vomit.

Mia grabbed a bottle of water and followed her, standing beside Ava, gently patting her back.

Once Ava had finished vomiting, Mia handed her the water.

Ava rinsed her mouth with the mineral water, her breath coming in ragged gasps.

"Do you really hate Alexander that much?" Mia asked, a note of disbelief in her voice. "I told you he loves you, and you end up vomiting!"

Even if Ava was pregnant and experiencing morning sickness, the timing of her vomiting seemed too coincidental.

"Mom, it's not because of that," Ava said, her voice weak. "It's just that you suddenly said something like that, and it startled me. Plus, I'm pregnant. It's not because I hate him."

"So, you don't hate him? Then why did you block him? I don't know what you said to him, but judging by his state last night, you must have hurt him," Mia said, her voice filled with concern.

Despite her resolve not to feel sympathy for a scoundrel, this scoundrel was her own son. She had neglected him when he was young, failing to fulfill her duties as a mother. If she had been more responsible, showing him love and guiding him, perhaps he wouldn't have turned out this way.

Ava straightened up, her hand unconsciously tightening around the bottle of water. "I really don't understand why he would be so upset."

"Because he cares about you," Mia said, her voice filled with conviction. "Because he loves you!"
