Chapter 517 Filling with Loss

"What's the issue then?"

"I..." Alexander didn't want to tell Scarlett that Ava had already been married to others. Just as he was about to make up an excuse, his phone rang.

He took out his phone and saw a text message from Ava.

Ava: [Please come to the restroom, thanks]

Alexander put his phone back in his pocket. "Grandma, I need to go to the restroom."

Alexander left the restaurant and went to the restroom. Ava opened the door for him, pulled him in, and closed the door.

"You're being quite polite." Alexander waved his phone in front of her.

She had sent him a text, saying please and thank you, as if she were talking to a stranger.

"Otherwise, do you want me to speak to you rudely?" Ava asked.

"I'd rather you be rude to me, scold me."

Ava frowned. "You really want me to scold you?"

"Yes, I'd rather you scold me than speak to me with such politeness. It makes me uncomfortable."

The more polite she was, the more distant he felt. She could hit him or curse him, but he didn't want her to treat him like a stranger.

Ava smiled helplessly. " You're quite odd. Who behaves in such a way? If I scold you, you find me rude. If I'm polite, you're dissatisfied. You're quite hard to please."

"Yeah, I'm so hard to please, yet you married me. You've tolerated me for over a year, being so patient. Without you, I feel like I'm on the brink of an emotional collapse."

While he typically didn't feel like he had a wife, the moment he truly lost her, he experienced a profound sense of emptiness.

Ava thought he was joking. "How come? Are you jesting with me or being sarcastic?"

"No, I finally understand that I need you the most. After you left me, you gained a broader world and another man who loves you. He's better than me, never hurt you, and does everything for you. However, after I left you, I had nothing. I can only stand still, unable to move forward or backward, watching you drift further away."

Hearing Alexander say these words calmly yet sadly, Ava was somewhat surprised. He would never have said such things before.

William was indeed better than him, undeniably better.

"Let's not talk about this." Ava changed the subject. She didn't call him here to talk about old matters.

"Alex, I want to ask you something."

Alexander asked while washing his hands, "What is it?"

"Are you willing to go to the wedding Scarlett mentioned?"

Alexander smiled lightly, "Why did you call me to the restroom to ask this secretly? Why didn't you ask me directly at the table?"

"I thought it would be better to discuss it privately. We both need to agree on this. If we have different opinions at the table, Grandma might scold you."

With his arms crossed, a faint smile on his lips, Alexander teased, "Are you worried she'll scold me? Are you concerned about me?"

Ava shook her head, "No, I just didn't want things to get awkward. It's easier to talk in private."
