Chapter 393 Mind Your Own Business

Her fervor to dissolve their relationship suggested a lack of involvement with Dalton's son. Mia, while being an impartial and just individual, was not one to let familial ties cloud her judgment. However, Alexander was her son, and she naturally harbored a slight bias towards him.

"I see," Dalton responded, a nod of understanding. "I can now put my mind at ease regarding William's impending nuptials."

"What?" Ava queried, her confusion apparent. "Is William getting married?"

Dalton confirmed, "Yes, he is no longer a young man. The time has come for him to establish a family. I have already selected an appropriate partner for him."

Ava's brows knitted together in a slight frown. "Who is the chosen bride?"

"She is the daughter of a dear friend, a child I've had the pleasure of watching grow. I am quite fond of her. Moreover, I maintain a strong relationship with her father, and we share certain business ties."

Upon hearing Dalton's words, Ava grasped the situation. This was a clear-cut business alliance.

"Has William consented to this arrangement?" Ava inquired.

"He is the Bennett family's eldest son, and thus, it is his duty. His agreement is not up for debate."

"Mr. Bennett," Ava interjected, "in matters of matrimony, the consent of the parties involved is crucial. The times have evolved, and I believe..."

"Ava," Dalton interrupted, "I understand your point, but regardless of the era, interests always take precedence. However..."

Dalton continued, "Initially, I assumed you and William were romantically involved, and I had no intention of forcibly separating you. I perceive you as an intelligent woman, and your presence by his side would be advantageous. However, since you've clarified that you're not, I am obligated to find him a suitable partner. Left to his own devices, he likely wouldn't consider marriage until his forties."

Dalton's words held a certain logic, but upon further contemplation, he was a patriarch who exerted control over everything, reminiscent of a feudal society.

Even if his son was single, arranging a marriage in such a manner was not his place.

Ava wished to voice her thoughts, but Mia interjected calmly, "Ava, you are not his girlfriend, thus, you have no say in his matrimonial affairs. Trust in Mr. Bennett's judgment."

Mia's words suggested that Ava should refrain from interfering in matters that didn't concern her.

Ava intended to argue further, but Mia's words silenced her.

It wasn't due to blind obedience, but the realization that voicing her opinion now would be futile.

Dalton was a man who made decisions independently, as demonstrated by his treatment of William during their previous encounter at home.

Ava was deeply concerned for William, burdened with a father who meddled even in his marital affairs.

She doubted that William was the type to accept an arranged marriage, left to the whims of fate. If a disagreement arose between father and son, it would inevitably result in turmoil.

Throughout the meal, Ava felt as though she was consuming wax.

Subsequently, Mia and Dalton engaged in a discussion about economic matters, and Ava listened intently. She could glean much from the conversation between these two influential figures.

After the meal.

Mia excused herself to the restroom.

Only Dalton and Ava remained.

Ava contemplated finding an excuse to leave as well, but before she could utter a word, Dalton spoke, "Ava, I am pleased to have met your mother-in-law today, and I owe it all to you."

Ava responded with a slight smile. "You're welcome."
