Chapter 411 Ruthless
"I have always felt guilty for not fulfilling my duties as a mother when you were young, for not being there for you. I believed I had no right to discipline you, but that slap wasn't from a mother to her child. it was from a mother protecting her daughter, Ava."
Ava was deeply moved. She never expected such a gesture from her mother-in-law, someone with whom she had little connection.
Ava sometimes felt unlucky in love and marriage, but in certain aspects, she was fortunate to have someone to protect her when she cried, felt distressed, or was mistreated.
Alexander lightly touched his cheek with his finger and suddenly chuckled, a mocking tone in his laughter. "You two are indeed mother and daughter. One slap each. Did you enjoy that?"
Mia was furious to see Alexander's reaction. "How did you become such a jerk?"
"Mom, you're mistaken." Alexander approached, speaking up, "I didn't become a jerk. I always was one. It's just that you didn't see it."
He smirked, a victorious smile on his face. "In any case, my marriage to Isabella is set, and no one can stop it. I sincerely invited you all, but since none of you came, there's nothing I can do. The wedding will proceed as planned, and I'm just letting you know."
His cold and ruthless tone sent chilled through everyone present.
So, this was his intention, to gather his parents and make such a statement, knowing full well that Ava would be there.
He not only angered his parents but also humiliated his ex-wife.
Mia looked at her son in disbelief and took a few steps back. "I finally gave you a chance, and this is what you do. There won't be another time. I won't help you anymore."
Alexander replied indifferently, "I don't need any chances, nor do I need help."
"Is that so? Have you forgotten what you said when you were drunk?" Mia said angrily.
She was on the verge of collapsing because of her son.
At that time, he was drunk, acting like a pitiful child, constantly calling out for Ava.
So, Mia's heart softened, and she brought Ava today, hoping that Alexander would have a chance to talk to her and maybe salvage something.
But she didn't expect him to give everyone such a big surprise.
Alexander coldly said, "Since I was drunk, how could you believe the words of a drunkard? It was just nonsense. I didn't even take it seriously, but you did."
George was angry. "Alexander, how can you speak to your mother like that?"
Alexander sneered, "You didn't hesitate to say such things to my grandmother back then."
A hint of sarcasm appeared at the corner of his mouth. "You have the most experience in this. Are you planning to teach me? Do you have the right?"
He no longer tried to disguise his emotions, even if it meant tearing apart his family! "You..." George was extremely angry but was choked and couldn't say a word.
Scarlett was also very angry with George, and he even said more hurtful things than Alexander.
Mia nodded. "Alright, it was you who said that it was all your nonsense. If that's the case, then I was just being nosy!"
Mia turned around and grabbed Ava's arm. "Let's go."
Ava was dragged away like a silent wooden puppet.
They left the restaurant and quickly disappeared.
George impatiently tugged at the tie around his neck. "Alexander, are you happy now? For an outsider, you abandoned your wife, angered your parents and grandmother, and today, you gathered everyone to humiliate them one by one."
"I'm just stating the facts. If you all insist on seeing it as humiliation, then I can't help it."
Seeing Alexander's indifferent and uncaring appearance, George felt a deep sense of disappointment.
But he knew deep down that he had no right to lecture him because he had done worse things than Alexander.
George turned to leave, took a few steps, then turned back and sighed at Alexander's expressionless face.
"You'd better always be a jerk. Otherwise, when the day comes for you to regret, you will be ten or a hundred times more miserable than the people you once hurt. Look at me and your mother; look at how I've spent these years."
"Thanks for the reminder." Alexander smiled faintly. "I will never be like you. After all, Ava and I are really divorced, and we will each go our separate ways in the future."
He seemed to have no heart, cold and ruthless.
"Good." George pointed at him. "Remember what you said."
After speaking, George turned and left.
After everyone had gone, the restaurant was empty, with only Alexander remaining. He slumped into a chair, his palm supporting his forehead, and let out a long sigh.
A few seconds later, he suddenly grabbed the cup on the table and slammed it to the ground.
It was great to be a jerk. No one would have any hope for him.
He would never have the chance to make anyone sad again.
Who would be sad for a jerk? He also thought that he could have a good talk with Ava today and say everything.
But in the end, it was just his wishful thinking.
Reality shattered his illusions.
