Chapter 745 Infidelity
Vicky switched gears. "By the way, did Dad tell you he and Mom got divorced?"
William looked up, surprised. "They got divorced?"
Vicky sighed. "Seems he didn't tell you."
William set down his forks. "Dad came by today, probably to break the news."
Vicky asked, "How do you feel about it?"
William shrugged, "I don't know. They've been together for so long. If they decided to split, they must really be done."
He'd noticed their relationship changing over the years.
Vicky looked down, feeling sad. "But Mom's really upset. She loves Dad a lot, but he's always been cold to her. It just got worse and worse."
William asked, "You feel bad for Mom, huh?"
Vicky nodded. "Yeah, I stayed with her all night. She drank a lot. I think she wanted to talk, but she didn't say much. Maybe she didn't want to badmouth Dad."
Vicky hesitated, "Do you think Dad cheated?"
William knew Dalton had been messing around with other women for years. His love life was a mess.
But he couldn't tell Vicky that.
Before William could respond, Vicky added, "Oh right, you lost your memory, so you probably don't feel much about their divorce. Honestly, you had a rough childhood. Dad was strict, always hitting and scolding you, and Mom didn't seem to care, like you were an outsider. Compared to you, Mom spoiled me more, and Dad didn't pay much attention to me. You've been through a lot. Maybe it's good you forgot, those memories weren't great."
William said gently, "Vicky, if you can, spend more time with Mom. I don't remember much, so I'm not that close to them. Plus, I need to focus on Ava. We'll need you to handle family stuff more."
Vicky nodded. "No problem, it's my responsibility too. You need to take care of Ava."
William suddenly thought of something. "By the way, when you took Eason home last night, did anything happen?"
Vicky shook her head. "No, but..."
"But what? Did he bother you?" William frowned.
Vicky smiled, "He didn't bother me. I just noticed he seems to really like Ava."
"He likes Ava? Did he say that?" William asked, annoyed.
Vicky replied, "You can tell. He doesn't call anyone else 'sister' except Ava. And I think Ava likes him too, but she just sees him as her brother. Eason's feelings might be different; he's smart."
Seeing William lost in thought, Vicky asked, "William, what's up?"
William snapped out of it. "Nothing. He's young and not a threat."
Vicky reminded him, "Yeah, he's young. Don't worry about him. Be more generous, or Ava might think you don't want her to have friends and get upset."
William thought of what Ava had said.
Ava always had friends around. He couldn't get jealous over nothing, or it would make her uncomfortable.
"I get it. I won't stoop to his level."
Just then, a phone rang.
Vicky pulled out her phone and checked the caller ID. She answered, "Mandy, what's up?"
"Okay, got it. I'll come over."
After hanging up, Vicky said, "Mandy wants me to come over."
William said, "Alright, go ahead. Say hi to her for me."
Vicky nodded. "Okay, take your time eating. Just toss the box in that trash can when you're done," she said, pointing.
William responded, "You go ahead."
"Bye." Vicky left the hospital with her bag.
