Chapter 20: Going to the Hospital with Me

In the Car.

Alexander's face was icy as he gently wiped the sweat from Ava's forehead with a handkerchief. "Why are you sweating so much? We'll have the doctor give you a full check-up to see what's wrong."

He started to worry, completely forgetting his earlier anger.

Hearing about a full check-up made Ava's head spin, but it was too late to stop him now. The more she tried to stop him, the more suspicious he'd get.

"Can we go to Virtuous Heaven Hospital?" Ava asked.

"Virtuous Heaven Hospital?" he questioned, "Why?"

"I've been there before. The doctors are good, and I'm familiar with the place. It makes me feel safe."

"You've been sick a lot before?"

Why didn't he know? In the year they had been married, he had always been by her side whenever she had a cold or fever. For more serious issues, he would personally take her to the hospital. Did she often go to Virtuous Heaven Hospital by herself?

"We've only been married for a year, and we weren't together every day before that. Besides, didn't you go on a business trip for two months? I felt a bit unwell and went to the hospital myself. It wasn't a big deal, so I didn't mention it."

Alexander stared at her for a while as if trying to find something on her face. But thinking about what she had said before, that she had endured him for long enough, he understood; how could she tell him everything?

There were many things he didn't know.

"Let's go to Virtuous Heaven Hospital." Alexander's face looked even worse than before.

Ava breathed a sigh of relief. She turned her body towards the window, closed her eyes, and pretended to rest. Alexander thought she would rather lean against the seat than in his arms.

As time passed, Ava noticed through the car window that Alexander was no longer staring at her. She secretly took out her phone from her pocket and texted Amelia: [Amelia, I need your help. It's urgent.]

At the Hospital.

After the results came out, the doctor looked at the report and said, "It's just food poisoning. Nothing serious. Just rest for a few days."

"Really?" Alexander seemed more disappointed than relieved.

When they arrived at the hospital, Ava had rushed to the bathroom to vomit. He had heard it clearly and felt a pang of worry. But now the doctor was telling him it was just food poisoning.

Ava breathed a sigh of relief and forced a smile. "I told you, it's nothing. Just food poisoning. Let's go home."

Alexander took the report from the doctor's desk and examined it closely. The results matched what the doctor had said.

"Then prescribe her some medication," Alexander said.

The doctor prescribed some medicine for Ava, and Alexander prepared to take her home.

In the hallway, Ava saw Amelia in a nurse's uniform talking to someone in the distance. Ava's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly grabbed Alexander's hand. "Wait a minute."

Alexander turned his head. "What's wrong?"

"I suddenly feel thirsty. I want to buy a bottle of water."

"I'll get it for you. Wait here." Alexander handed the bag of medicine to Ava and left.

Ava quickly took out her phone and called Amelia.

When Amelia answered, she spotted Ava in the distance. She was about to walk over when Ava quickly said, "Don't come over. Don't let Alexander see you. He doesn't know you're working here as a nurse."

Amelia immediately understood and nodded. "Got it. But after this is over, you need to tell me what's going on. Otherwise, I won't help you again."

"I understand, Amelia. Just hide for now."

After hanging up, Amelia left just as Alexander returned with a bottle of water.

He opened the bottle and handed it to her.

Just as Ava was about to drink, Alexander suddenly grabbed her wrist. "Wait a minute."

He took the bag of medicine from her, took out a few pills, and handed them to her. "Take the medicine while you're at it."

Ava's face froze. She was pregnant, so she couldn't take random medication.

"What are you waiting for? You'll feel better after taking the medicine."
