Chapter 537 Like A Child

Seeing that Brandon seemed a bit unhappy, Ava explained, "I didn't mean it that way. I just wanted to reassure you."

"I trust you completely, and the request I just made wasn't directed at you. I think that since your marriage is a sham, the sooner it ends, the better it will be for both of you. It's not that I think you're unworthy of marrying William because I can see that you also want to get divorced as soon as possible."

Understanding his intention, Ava nodded. "Yes, you're right. I was overthinking it. I'm sorry."

Whether Brandon looked down on her or genuinely meant what he explained, it didn't matter much to Ava. However, since Brandon took the time to explain, she believed him a bit more. He didn't seem like someone who would lie on purpose.

"It's okay. It's normal for you to have such thoughts. I didn't explain myself clearly enough, which led to your misunderstanding."

Ava didn't expect William to have such an understanding uncle. Perhaps the higher one's status, the more one has seen, and they wouldn't make a fuss over small matters. Their perspective on issues wouldn't be the same as ordinary people's.

For someone like Brandon, there was probably nothing he hadn't encountered. The matter between her and William might seem trivial in his eyes.

"Uncle, thank you no matter what."

"You are welcome. I haven't done anything for you."

"Not blaming us is already a big help."

Being an elder, Brandon was likely to chastise them from a higher standing.

"What could I say?" Brandon said with a smile, "You and William are both adults. Any decision you make is your own choice. Since neither of you is at fault, what right does anyone else have to say anything? But you must bear the consequences yourselves."

Ava nodded. "You're right. Whatever the consequences, we'll bear them ourselves."

She glanced at the time. "Uncle, I'll head back now."

"I'll drive you. You needn't get out of the car."

"Don't bother."

"It's okay. I'll drive you. I brought you here, and I can only be at ease if I see you back safely, especially now that you bear a baby." He glanced at her abdomen.

"Alright then." Ava didn't refuse again.

Brandon drove Ava to the hospital and only left after watching her walk inside.

Before going to William's room, Ava first took a peek at Eason. She only glanced from the doorway and didn't go in.

A nurse was taking care of Eason. He was holding his phone and laughing, probably watching something funny. She didn't go in to disturb him and instead went back to William's room.

"Ava, you're back." William's mood brightened as soon as he saw her.

"Sorry, William, it took me so long to get back."

Ava sat on the chair beside the bed. "How are you feeling today?"

"I'm fine. You don't need to worry."

This time, William's demeanor starkly contrasted with before; regarding her departure, he was not as sorrowful.

"That's good. I was worried that if I came back late, you'd cry like a child again."

Ava wasn't upset; she was half-joking with him.

William lowered his head in shame. "Last time, I behaved poorly, acting like a child. I shall not repeat it in the future. Certainly, you have your own affairs to attend to. It would be selfish of me to demand your time incessantly."
