Chapter 254 Sorrow and Anger Collide
Regardless, she had made up her mind to secretly give birth to this child. She was determined to devote herself entirely to her child and would ensure they didn't end up feeling the way she felt now.
But would the child grow up to resent and blame her? Wondering why they were brought into this world without a complete family made Ava feel panicked. Clutching her clothes, she struggled with mixed emotions.
"You..." George Mitchell trembled with anger!
Slap!
He struck his son hard across the face.
Ava's heart skipped a beat as she quickly stepped in front of Alexander, spreading her arms to protect him, "Dad, please calm down and talk this out. Don't be violent!"
Sometimes, the guiltier one felt, the louder and angrier they became.
George seemed to be experiencing just that, his rage masking a deep-seated sense of guilt.
As he struck his son in his fury, he later regretted his actions.
With a stinging cheek, Alexander raised his hand to gently press against his face, pulling a cold, mocking smile. Sarcasm flashed through his eyes.
He grabbed Ava by the hand and pulled her behind him, staring coldly at George. With a snort, he said, "Go on, hit me some more. Beat me until I'm bleeding all over, just like grandma did. In the Mitchell family, I'm the least filial one anyway. I've let down grandma, I've failed you, and I've failed Ava. I'm nothing but a burden!"
Alexander Mitchell grit his teeth, a veil of tears welling up in his deep dark eyes, and a sheen of cold sweat rolled down his forehead. He had been tolerating the pain while talking to them.
Ava Anderson clutched Alexander Mitchell's arm tightly, feeling him tremble and becoming extremely worried, she quickly said, "Alex, stop talking, nobody thinks you're superfluous. You are an indispensable member of the Mitchell Family, don't think like that."
Alexander Mitchell turned his head, helplessly pulling a wry smile, "Haven't I made everyone upset and angry? How am I not superfluous?"
He gently shook off her hand, "Sometimes I wonder, what is the meaning of my birth? Is it the birth out of my parents' love that brought them happiness? Or did my birth improve their relationship? No, it did nothing. My birth only made things worse since my father doesn't love my mother, he didn't want me, and after my mother insisted on giving birth to me, she suffered alone. Seeing my face is like seeing the man who hurt her, so she avoids me."
Mia Thompson opened her mouth in distress, as if wanting to say something, but the words wouldn't come out; it was as if anything she said would be wrong.
George Mitchell saw his wife's sorrowful state, and his heart shattered.
Consequently, all his anger turned towards Alexander Mitchell.
"Alexander Mitchell, you are the only son of the Mitchell Family. You've been given everything on a silver platter, clad in silk and jade since you were little, with wealth beyond measure. Are you still not satisfied? What are you complaining about now? Your life is something 99% of the people in this world couldn't even dream of! No wonder your grandmother wanted to thrash you; it looks like you're asking for it!"
"Enough!" Mia Thompson suddenly yanked George Mitchell over, raised her hand, and slapped him hard across the face.
The crisp sound of the slap took Ava Anderson by surprise, and she gripped Alexander Mitchell's clothes tighter.
She hadn't expected Mia Thompson to hit George Mitchell.
Neither had he, apparently.
He covered his face, looking at his wife in disbelief.
Mia Thompson turned away, staring at her trembling hand, which she then clenched into a fist. She raised her head, her gaze a mix of grief and rage as she looked at everyone around her.
