Chapter 957 Driven by Greed
Ava felt woozy. "Alexander, my head's spinning. I just wanna sleep."
Alexander's eyes were full of helplessness and sadness.
He knew she was wiped out, both physically and emotionally.
He gently stroked her face. "It's okay, you sleep. I'll handle everything."
"Alexander, he can't die. He's my savior. Without him, I wouldn't be here. Those guys who caught me, they were terrifying, and they wanted to hurt me. Bishop saved me, even took bullets for me. You can't let him die, okay?" Ava pleaded weakly, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Okay." Alexander held her tight and whispered in her ear, "I won't let him die."
Ava slowly closed her eyes.
Alexander sighed and kissed her forehead. "Ava, what am I gonna do with you?"
She was heartbroken over another man, and he had to go along with it, promising her that the guy wouldn't die.
Alexander knew he had no right. They were already divorced, and it was his idea. He had hurt her.
So, Ava turned to another man. Alexander deserved it, but it still hurt.
She was right there in his arms. How could he let her go?
Alexander's thumb gently caressed her soft lips, and he couldn't help but kiss her.
How long had it been since he kissed her like this?
People said when one kiss someone he loved, he'd close his eyes.
But right now, Alexander kept his eyes open because he couldn't bear to close them. He wanted to look at her a little longer. To him, it was a blessing. He feared that if he closed his eyes, Ava would disappear.
He lingered on her lips for a long time, not wanting to part. How he wished time could stop at this moment.
Before, when he kissed Madison, he closed his eyes and imagined she was Ava, but she wasn't.
He had done the most despicable thing, finding a substitute for the woman he loved.
By doing so, he wronged both Madison and Ava.
He knew he shouldn't, but he couldn't resist. This was probably the dark side of human nature.
Knowing one shouldn't do something but doing it anyway, driven by greed.
"Ava, I love you." Alexander kissed her lips for a long time, then reluctantly let her go.
He gently unbuttoned Ava's clothes, took them off, and carried her to the shower, washing her body with warm water.
Ava still had stretch marks on her belly, having just given birth not long ago. There was a bit of extra flesh there, and he gently touched it. "Ava, why did you have a child with him? Why? Do you know how much it hurts me? Thinking about William being the father of your child, I hate it. Why him? If we had a child, wouldn't it have been great? If we had a child, would we not have divorced?"
Alexander washed every inch of Ava's body clean.
As his hands glided over her skin, he couldn't help but think of their intimate moments in the past, and his eyes began to redden.
Her body, her heart, her everything was given to William.
Just thinking about that made Alexander's heart ache.
The bathroom was filled with steamy mist.
