Chapter 861 His Words Cut Deep

Madison clenched her jaw and spat out, "No matter how low I get, at least I wouldn't ever consider ending my own life.. This ain't falling; it's just me caring too damn much about you. How can saving someone be falling?"

"Yeah, sure," Alexander shot back with a smirk. "I misspoke. This ain't falling; it's straight-up acting cheap."

Madison felt like she'd been hit by a truck. "What did you just say?"

She couldn't wrap her head around Alexander being so brutal.

"Am I wrong?" Alexander's words cut deep. "For a guy who doesn't give a damn about you, you cry and moan, act like you're dying, and even want him to hit and yell at you. And you still think you can save me? You think you're worthy? You think you're some kind of savior? Look at that imaginary halo of yours; you're just fooling yourself."

He was tearing her down on purpose, trying to snap Madison out of her delusion that he could ever like her.

Wasting time on him would only bring her heartache. He wasn't gonna give her hope or a happy ending; he never planned to lead her on.

Madison couldn't hold back her tears. "You're right, I am cheap!"

A wave of intense emotion hit Madison like a freight train. She started gasping for air, clutching her chest, and slowly slid to the floor.

Alexander's face went white with panic. He dragged his aching body out of bed, scooped her up from the floor, and yelled, "Doctor!"

A few hours later, Madison slowly opened her eyes and saw Alexander standing by her bed in a hospital gown.

Madison blinked her teary eyes. "Mr. Mitchell, how are you?"

Alexander looked exhausted. "I'm fine."

Madison sat up in bed, leaned against the headboard, and glanced around. "I'm still kicking, that's good."

Seeing Madison's worn-out face, Alexander sighed. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said those things to you."

He knew he'd gone too far.

Madison's emotional meltdown had triggered a heart attack, almost costing her life.

His goal was to make Madison stop liking him, but he'd nearly killed her in the process. Now, Alexander was stuck in a tough spot.

Madison forced a bitter smile. "Actually, you weren't wrong. But loving someone can make me act cheap. Mr. Mitchell, you're no different. You're stubbornly in love with Ava, aren't you?"

Once people fell in love, nothing else mattered. Everything else became trivial.

God gave people the ability to love, which meant they might end up loving someone who didn't love them back.

They could only feel the pain, joy, sweetness, and despair brought by that person.

Alexander lowered his eyes and stayed silent for a long time.

After a while, he said, "We shouldn't see each other anymore. I don't want to hurt you again."

"Okay, I promise," Madison replied.

Seeing Madison agree so quickly, Alexander was a bit surprised but also relieved. "Alright then, you rest. I'll head out."

"Wait," Madison called out to him.

Alexander turned back. "What is it?"

"I can promise we won't see each other again, but you gotta promise me one thing first. If you do it, I swear I won't see you again."

"What is it?" Alexander asked.

"We need to go to Stellaria together."

Alexander's face darkened again. "Why are you bringing this up again?"

He didn't want to lose his cool with Madison, but she kept pushing his buttons.
