Chapter 1285 A Bit of Sympathy
If the mysterious pregnancy test and DNA results had left Alexander with some doubts, Bishop's words telling him that Sunny was his son erased those doubts, replacing them with overwhelming pain.
Alexander had once fantasized about what it would be like if Sunny were his son. He had even wondered if Sunny might actually be his son.
But thinking about everything that had happened with Ava, Alexander was afraid. He feared that if he was overthinking it, if he was being overly sentimental, what would he do?
After all, when he encountered them at Stellaria, they were having dinner as a family of three. Alexander watched William and Sunny interact like father and son. His first reaction was that Ava and William had a child together.
And Ava didn't deny it at the time, which led him to believe that Sunny was William's son.
Alexander thought about his interactions with Sunny, and how Sunny had innocently called him "Dad." Maybe Sunny was too young to understand and just called anyone "Dad," but now thinking about that title, it was prophetic—he really was Sunny's father.
Alexander's body felt like a heavy stone, unable to move. His face was pale, his lips were cracked, and cold sweat beaded on his forehead. Every breath brought a stabbing pain, as if countless needles were piercing his chest.
"Why? Ava, why didn't you tell me from the beginning?"
Bishop spoke up, "Why didn't Ava tell you? Don't you know in your heart? It's said that you divorced her for another woman. You were going to divorce her, so why would she tell you she was pregnant?"
"Ava should have told me!" Alexander raised his head and shouted uncontrollably, "If she had told me, I would never have divorced her!"
Bishop suddenly laughed, "Alexander, are you blaming Ava for this? Ava is not someone without self-respect. You were going to divorce her for another woman, so why would she use a child to bind you? Why don't you think from her perspective? How much torment did she go through choosing to hide this news? In the end, she did it for your sake."
Alexander's eyes were empty, staring into the distance, as if trying to find an answer. However, the answer only brought more pain.
"Then why didn't Ava tell me later when there were so many opportunities?"
"First there was Isabella, then Madison. How was Ava supposed to tell you? Alexander, you only care that Ava didn't tell you, but have you ever thought about how hard it was for Ava to give birth and take care of the child alone? If you hadn't gone too far, why wouldn't she tell you?"
Alexander's mouth twisted into a painful smile, a smile that was neither joyful nor sincere, but a reaction of despair.
"It was me who went too far!" Alexander suddenly roared, "I gave her my life, what more does she want? Does she want me to die? How long have you known Ava? Do you know how heartless and cruel she can be? My life was almost ruined by her. In her eyes, I was just a plaything!"
Thinking of Ava's last words to him, Alexander felt as if his heart was being cut by a knife. Ava had trampled on his dignity and humiliated him!
She was so heartless! He was in so much pain!
Bishop watched Alexander's madness, his brows slightly furrowed. His usually cold eyes now revealed a trace of helplessness.
His lips were tightly pressed together, and he said nothing. Despite being rivals in love, Alexander's pain at this moment was so real, so profound.
Bishop couldn't help but feel a bit of sympathy for Alexander.
