Chapter 855 Fortunately, He Was There
Breakfast was a feast, all whipped up by William himself.
He was super careful with Ava after she gave birth.
Ava thought taking care of a newborn would be a total nightmare. Babies were a handful. They didn't sleep on schedule, cried all night, and needed constant diaper changes.
She was ready for sleepless nights and didn't care if she looked like a hot mess.
But, surprise, surprise, she barely had to lift a finger. Every time Sunny cried, William was the first to dash to the nursery, calm him down, and get him back to sleep.
Ava didn't have much breast milk, so Sunny had to be fed formula. William would always check the temperature a million times to make sure it wasn't too hot.
One night, Ava was lying in bed and heard Sunny crying through the baby monitor. It was like 2 a.m..
She threw off the covers, ready to check on Sunny.
But then, she heard William's soft voice through the monitor.
"Hey, little guy, what's up? Scared 'cause you can't see us when you open your eyes?"
"It's okay, I'm here. I'll stay with you. Good boy."
"Can I kiss your little forehead?"
"So sweet. Go back to sleep, buddy. Don't wake up Mommy. She worked hard to bring you here. Let's not bother her, okay?"
"I'll sing you a song."
With William's gentle singing, Sunny's cries slowly faded, and he fell back asleep.
Ava was so moved, she had to cover her mouth to keep from crying out loud.
She quietly left the room, opened the door, and saw William coming out of the nursery, heading back to his room.
Ava couldn't hold back and rushed to hug him.
William was startled, "Ava, why aren't you asleep yet? Did the baby wake you? I've already calmed him down. You go back to sleep. And don't worry about the baby monitor; I'll handle it. You just rest."
"Shh, don't talk," Ava said firmly, leaning against his chest.
William was taken aback and immediately shut up. After a while, Ava let go, "Thank you."
William smiled gently, "No biggie. It's what I should do. Go back to sleep; I'll watch over the baby."
William walked Ava back to her room and tucked her in himself.
He didn't leave until she was fast asleep.
Ava would always remember that moment. He was gentle, polite, and considerate, always thinking of her.
Instead of looking like a mess while taking care of the baby, she stayed clean and even more stunning.
On the flip side, William looked like he'd lost some weight. He wasn't sleeping well, and his eyes were kinda bloodshot.
"Ava, you go ahead and eat." William was juggling the baby while trying to eat.
Ava felt a bit guilty. "Let me hold Sunny for a bit."
"It's cool, Ava. You eat first. I'll hand him over after you're done, or else he'll mess with your meal."
He could eat like crap, but he wouldn't let Ava do the same.
They were both his world.
Holding back her emotions, Ava scarfed down her breakfast. After finishing, she went over to William.
"Let me hold Sunny."
William could barely eat with Sunny in his arms; he managed to take a bite here and there.
"Alright, be careful." William carefully handed Sunny to Ava.
His cautiousness made it seem like William was Sunny's mom.
Ava found it kinda funny.
It was clear he really loved this kid.
Ava stood to the side, holding Sunny and trying to soothe him.
Seeing Sunny's tiny figure, she felt a wave of affection.
She couldn't help but kiss Sunny's forehead.
But soon, Sunny's little mouth quivered, and he started crying.
Ava panicked and tried to calm him down, "Baby, don't cry. I'm holding you."
But no matter what she did, Sunny kept crying.
Ava got anxious and quickly turned to William for help. "Am I holding him wrong? Did I make him uncomfortable?"
Sunny was so small and fragile, she was scared a wrong move might hurt him or even break his bones.
William quickly stuffed a few bites of food into his mouth and rushed over, taking Sunny from her, "Good Sunny, don't cry, okay?"
The baby quickly stopped crying in William's arms, looking all cute and calm.
Seeing this, Ava felt a pang of sadness. Her own kid cried as soon as she held him.
Seeing Ava's upset face, William smiled gently, "It's not your fault. Don't worry, Sunny's just hard to soothe right now, but you're his mom. When he gets a bit older, he'll be all about you."
William's words made Ava feel a lot better.
She even felt lucky to have William by her side. Otherwise, she'd be lost and probably mess everything up.
In comparison, Sunny's biological dad didn't want him.
Thinking of Alexander, Ava's heart ached again.
Alexander was probably doing fine now, starting a new relationship.
Mia told her he was dating another woman.
They were probably doing great, maybe even talking about marriage.
