Chapter 66 Cut from the Same Cloth
As the divorce agreement was shredded before his eyes, Alexander found himself not as incensed as he had anticipated, but rather momentarily dazed. However, the shock quickly wore off, replaced by a cold, hard stare.
"Are you finding amusement in this? Ava has already signed it!" he snapped.
"And what if she has? You were the one who wanted the divorce, weren't you? You think I'm oblivious to your schemes?" retorted George. The same blood flowed through their veins; a father could always sense his son's intentions.
"Your act of tearing it up is futile. It's merely a waste of paper. Another copy of the divorce settlement will be printed," Alexander retorted, his resolve for the divorce unwavering.
He had not disclosed to his father that Ava was even more eager for the divorce than he was.
Observing Alexander, George felt a wave of unease wash over him. He exited the hospital room, sinking into a chair in the lounge area, his gaze fixed on the entrance.
He glanced at his wristwatch several times, his mind a whirlwind of thoughts, until he finally pulled out his cell phone and dialed a number.
"Ava, it's me," he began.
"Dad, what's going on?" she responded.
"Who gave you the authority to sign those divorce papers? Did you even consult with the family?" he questioned."
Dad, I..." Ava began, only to be cut off.
"Save your explanations. I'm fully aware of the situation. If he presents those papers to you again, don't you dare sign them. Are you willing to let Isabella off the hook so easily?" George warned.
"Dad, the situation between Alex and me is beyond repair. Prolonging this is only causing more pain, so it's better..."
"Does your marriage still require saving? Both of you are behaving like fools," George interjected. "My mother is unwell, but I won't let you two proceed with this. If I see your signature again, don't blame me for being harsh with you!"
With that, George ended the call.
He gripped the phone tightly, his mind flooded with memories.
He couldn't allow Ava to sever ties with the Mitchell family, absolutely not!
He had to rectify his past mistakes and prevent his son from repeating his failures.
"Did Ava upset you?" A frosty female voice interrupted his thoughts.
George was jolted back to reality, looking up to find his wife standing there. He quickly masked his despondency, "Mia, you're here."
"How's Alex?" Her concern was solely for Alexander.
"He's in the room. I'll take you," he offered, leading the way with a hint of anxiety.
Mia followed, her voice icy, "So, you're the domineering father-in-law."
George halted, turning to clarify, "It's not what you're thinking."
Mia merely smirked, "Aren't you tired of using that old line?"
She had lost count of how many times she had heard it before.George's expression tightened, and he finally said, "It's about Ava and Alex."He recounted the situation once more.
Upon hearing the story, Mia burst into laughter.
A baffled George asked, "What's so amusing about you laughing?"
Their son was in trouble, yet as a mother, she was not panicking but laughing.
"I'm laughing because you and your son are cut from the same cloth," she stated.
Even when discussing her own son, Mia was blunt. She focused on the issue, not the person.
George's expression soured, "Mia, listen, let me explain..."
"Enough," Mia interrupted, "I don't want to hear it. Don't waste any more time, take me to see Alex."
George took a deep breath and nodded, "Alright."
The issues between him and his wife couldn't be encapsulated in just a few words.
However, the sight of his wife seemingly indifferent about their son and daughter-in-law's impending divorce left him distressed.
