Chapter 176 Sacrifice for Her

"Where could she be? Where is the nurse by the name of Amelia Bennett?"

The question hung in the air like a threat, followed by the violent sound of a door being thrust open. A middle-aged couple, their faces twisted with anger, stormed into the room.

"Are you Amelia Bennett?"

Their eyes fell upon the figure lying on the hospital bed. Without a moment's hesitation, they rushed over, yanking the covers off the bed with a brusque pull.

"What do you think you're doing?"

Ava's voice cut through the tension, her hands pushing the woman away with a force born of desperation. She positioned herself protectively beside Amelia's bed, her face a mask of anxiety.

"Move aside!" The man's voice was gruff as he roughly shoved Ava, his hands unyielding.

"Ah!" Ava instinctively cradled her belly, her body curling protectively around it.

"Stop this!" Amelia's voice was sharp as she scrambled out of bed, rushing to help Ava up from the floor. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine." Ava's voice was shaky, but there was no pain in her belly.

As the couple advanced again, Ava quickly maneuvered Amelia behind her, her slender body acting as a shield against the irate pair. "What do you want from us?"

"This nurse is the reason my son was arrested! Just wait until I get my hands on her!"

The couple's fury was palpable, their words spilling out in an irrational torrent.

"Think before you act," Ava warned, her body still shielding Amelia. "Your son is already in custody. Do you want to join him? Let's talk this out."

"Talk? It's all her fault! She was rude, insulted my son, and he reacted—what's wrong with that?"

"I didn't insult him," Amelia's voice was barely above a whisper, her body trembling. "I was busy, I might have been curt, but I never insulted him."

"I don't care! You're the reason my son's in trouble, you...!" Their words were drowned out by their own rage as they lunged at Amelia.

Ava's instincts kicked in, pulling Amelia towards the exit.

But the man was quicker, his hand closing around Amelia's wrist and dragging her back into the room.

"Ah!" Amelia's scream pierced the air.

The commotion drew the attention of the hospital staff, who rushed in to find the room in chaos.

Amelia was pinned to the floor, Ava quickly throwing herself on top of her, her arms wrapped tightly around her. "Stop this, both of you."

"Ava, leave! This isn't your fight, get out of here!"

Amelia's voice was filled with fear, not for herself, but for Ava. She was pregnant, and any harm to her could be catastrophic.

But Ava was stubborn, clinging desperately to Amelia on the ground.

Several male doctors rushed forward, attempting to pull the enraged couple away.

The man shrugged them off, his hand closing around a nearby vase, which he hurled directly at Ava.

Crash! The vase shattered on the floor, fragments scattering across the room.

Ava had braced for impact, holding Amelia close, but the expected pain never came.

The room fell into a stunned silence.

Turning her head, Ava saw a tall figure standing protectively in front of her, having intercepted the vase meant for her.

Security finally arrived, seizing the couple and dragging them away, their shouts echoing down the corridor.

Releasing Amelia, Ava turned to her, her voice trembling. "Are you okay?"

Amelia, still in shock, shook her head. "I... I'm fine."

Ava quickly rose to her feet, rushing to the side of the tall figure—Alexander. She spun him around, her heart sinking at the sight of blood covering his forehead.

"Alex."

Her hands shook as she gently cradled his face, her voice barely a whisper.

Looking into Ava's tear-filled eyes, Alexander caught her wrist, pulling her into his arms. "Are you hurt?"

His hands moved carefully over her body, checking for injuries, his touch as gentle as if she were made of glass.

"I'm fine," Ava assured him, wiping away her tears. "But you're hurt."

"It's just a scratch," Alexander finally said, holding her close, as if afraid she would disappear. His arms tightened around her, longing to keep her safe within his embrace.
