Chapter 225 Post-Divorce
Despite the numerous disagreements they had weathered, he found himself unwilling to shortchange her. He was determined to repay what he owed her, hoping it would pave the way for her to lead a fulfilling life.
Even in the throes of anger, when he was awash with a myriad of emotions, he held fast to the hope that she would not have to endure hardship.
The revelation that Alexander had transferred his property into her name was a jolt to Ava. She was further astounded by the fact that he had also bequeathed her a 5% stake in SK Group.
This was a staggering fortune. Merely by selling that 5% of shares, she could afford a life of leisure for the rest of her days—indeed, for several lifetimes. Moreover, SK Group was a thriving enterprise, its shares steadily appreciating in value year after year. Ava had not anticipated such magnanimity from Alexander, the unexpected gift of a five percent share left her speechless.
Ava, shocked, found herself at a loss for words.
"You should know, you didn't have to give me this," Ava finally spoke, her voice steady, "This isn't what I wanted."
"Then what do you want?" Alexander's eyes held a flicker of elusive emotion. "You can tell me Is it something I can give you?"
A bitter smile twisted Ava's lips.
That was something he could never give, for he had already bestowed it upon another woman.
There was little else to be said.
She shook her head, "I can't think of anything, perhaps the sudden five percent of the shares has left me somewhat disoriented."
Alexander thought he detected a hint of disappointment in Ava's eyes. He couldn't comprehend why—now that he had gifted her five percent of the shares, she had become a woman of means. Why wasn't she pleased? What did she truly desire?
She was now financially secure, and post-divorce, she was free to be with someone she loved. Why wasn't she more exuberant?
Alexander's mouth quirked, "No need to be disoriented. It's what you deserve. Remember, even if we divorce, you are still part of the Mitchell family. We may not be husband and wife, but we are still kin."
"Kin?" The word pierced Ava like a thorn.
"Have you forgotten?" He frowned, seemingly displeased with her reaction. "We agreed, one is the brother, the other the sister."
A hollow sensation enveloped Ava, and she managed a small smile. "Alex, no, Mr. Mitchell."
She had finally altered the way she addressed him. She had done so once before when he first broached the subject of divorce, but had reverted to calling him Alex. But now that the divorce was final, "Mr. Mitchell" would become the norm.
No, after this, even Mr. Mitchell would be unnecessary.
She disregarded the icy glint in his gaze when she said "Mr. Mitchell," and continued, "Ex-spouses can't become siblings, so I can't be your sister, and you can't be my brother. I’m your ex-wife, you're my ex-husband, and from today on, we are nothing to each other."
Hearing her firm tone, a spark of anger ignited between Alexander's brows, "You mean, we're never going to see each other again?"
Ava scoffed, "Do you still expect to see me in the future?"
She questioned why he didn't seem to care about Isabella. This man sometimes truly perplexed her; she just couldn't decipher what was going through his mind.
"You're suggesting that once we're divorced, we don't need to see each other anymore? Like we're strangers?" he pressed.
