Chapter 33 The Mistress Declared A War

Could Alexander really humiliate her just to make Isabella feel better? Maybe he didn't see it that way, but to Ava, it sure felt like it.

Just as Ava was about to speak, Felix knocked on the door. "Mr. Mitchell, Mr. Jones needs to video conference with you urgently."

Alexander stood up. "Connect it to the conference room computer. I'll be right there."

"Got it."

After Felix left, Alexander turned to Isabella with a gentle smile. "I need to discuss something with a business partner. I'll be back soon."

Isabella nodded. "Alright, go ahead."

Alexander then approached Ava. "Ava, clear things up with Isabella. Don't let her misunderstand."

Ava's face was blank. Seeing her empty gaze, Alexander felt a sudden discomfort, almost a sting. He lowered his voice. "Take care of Isabella. I'll be back soon."

With that, he left the office.

Ava clenched her fists. Come on! How ridiculous. Isabella was an adult, not a child. Did he really need to go that far?

After Alexander left, Isabella looked at Ava, her eyes falling on the diamond bracelet on Ava's wrist. "That bracelet is beautiful. Did Alexander give it to you?"

Ava instinctively grasped the diamond bracelet on her left wrist. He had given it to her but then left after receiving Isabella's call. She had been so upset that she had taken it off. Today, as she was leaving the house, she remembered the bracelet and impulsively put it back on, thinking they could have lunch together. Now she felt foolish.

He had casually bought her a gift, not even remembering her birthday, while she had cherished it.

Seeing Ava's silence, Isabella continued, "When Alexander asked me, I told him to buy you a bracelet. I thought it would look good on you."

Ava stared at Isabella in shock. Noticing her reaction, Isabella smiled. "What's wrong? Don't you like the bracelet? It's my fault. When Alexander asked, I just said a diamond bracelet without suggesting anything else. He just followed my advice. It's all on me."

Isabella exuded a confidence akin to a "first wife." She wasn't angry that Alexander had given Ava the bracelet; instead, she was full of mockery. Seeing Ava's expression, she knew she had won.

Ava felt like a fool. Her so-called husband had to consult another woman to buy her a gift. She had been touched, wearing the bracelet today to have lunch with him, only to end up cooking for another woman and learning the truth about the bracelet.

Ava wanted to take the bracelet off immediately, but doing so would show her panic and let Isabella mock her. So, she endured the pain and kept it on.

"Really? Thank you, Miss Harrington. You're right; it suits me." Ava's fingers lightly brushed the diamond bracelet. "When Alexander put it on me, he said it looked beautiful."

She wasn't trying to compete, but she didn't want Isabella to laugh at her.

"Well, keep wearing it then. After you divorce, he won't give you any more gifts." Isabella's eyes darkened as she lowered her head, taking a bite of the lunch Ava had made. "It's really good. Too bad Alexander won't get to enjoy it after your divorce."

Her tone sounded regretful but carried a hint of smugness.

"Enjoy your meal. I'm leaving." Ava wasn't going to stay and take care of Isabella because she didn't need it.

"Wait." Isabella stopped her. "Didn't Alexander tell you why you're here? If you leave now, he won't be happy." Her gentle tone was full of warning, clearly taking advantage of Alexander’s entrust.

"Miss Harrington, what do you want to hear? You know everything about me and Alexander. Do you really feel guilty about our divorce?"
