Chapter 1023 Heartbreak and Sorrow
Ava asked it on purpose. She wanted to see how William would react.
Was he really coming back because he felt guilty? Or was it just a coincidence that the company hit a rough patch?
William said, "Ava, honestly, after coming back, I realized things were worse than I thought. So, I won't be heading to Stellaria anytime soon; I just can't find the time."
"I see," Ava said, her eyes dropping in disappointment.
Coming back just in time and then not daring to return to Stellaria—was he really running away on purpose?
But who tipped William off? Did he really have someone planted next to Alexander? Who could it be?
Ava smiled, "Alright, you handle the company's issues. Don't worry about me; I'll come back as soon as I finish my studies."
William said, "Okay. Ava, say a few words to Sunny."
Looking at Sunny on the screen, his eyes welling up with tears, Ava felt a wave of heartbreak and sorrow.
Ava said, "Sunny, I'm sorry I can't be with you right now. Once I return, I won't leave you again."
Sunny on the screen seemed to understand Ava's words, reaching out with both little hands as if trying to grasp something.
Ava almost burst into tears. "I'm sorry, Sunny, I'm sorry."
William comforted her, "Ava, it's not your fault. And you don't need to worry too much. Sunny is still young and doesn't understand much. I'm his biological father, and I'll take good care of him. Don't you trust me?"
Ava didn't know what to say.
The words "biological father" were probably said intentionally by William. He did love Sunny very much, like a biological father, but Sunny wasn't his child after all.
She no longer dared to profess her trust in him as she once did.
She had a plethora of questions for William, but with Sunny there, she didn't dare to.
No matter what, she had to wait until she returned home.
For now, it was safer to maintain the status quo.
William said, "Ava, Sunny is very smart. When you talk to him, he seems to understand. I estimate that in a few months, he'll start talking. But don't worry, I'll make sure he says 'mom' first, then 'dad,' because it was hard for you to give birth to him."
Ava bit her lip and nodded, "Thank you."
William said, "We're husband and wife; no need to be so formal."
Out of the corner of her eye, Ava glanced at Alexander. He was still sitting there, seemingly unmoved.
She didn't dare to look directly at Alexander, fearing that William might notice something.
If William knew Alexander was in her hospital room, who knew what kind of trouble it would cause.
William's voice rose, "Ava, just letting you know I'm safe. It's getting late; you should rest early."
Ava nodded, "Okay, you take care too. Don't overwork yourself with the company matters."
"I'll rest well," William said. "After all, I still have to take care of Sunny. I won't neglect myself. Honey, when you come back, the three of us will never be apart again."
William's voice was especially gentle. When he looked at the camera, it felt as if he was right in front of Ava, not on the other side of the world.
The words "the three of us" felt a bit too heavy for Ava, and for Alexander, it even induced a sense of suffocation.
