Chapter 291 His Wrath

"A bribe?" William snorted coldly. "And what did you do about it?"

Silence ensued once more.

Then, with a bang, Alexander Mitchell slammed his hand on the table and stood up. "The losses this time... even selling all of you wouldn't cover it!"

Ava and Victoria were standing not far from the office when they heard the sound of objects being thrown and the roaring voice of a man.

They stopped in their tracks, standing there stunned.

"Ladies, Mr. Bennett is a bit preoccupied right now. Why don't you sit for a while? I can get you some coffee and bring over some snacks?" an assistant offered.

"No." Victoria waved her hand dismissively. "Go on with your work; don't mind us."

The secretary flashed a polite smile, not daring to slight her, and bowed slightly, "Of course, Miss Bennett. If there's anything you need, just let me know."

After the secretary left, Victoria Bennett linked arms with Ava Anderson and they took a few steps forward.

Ava's heart rate picked up as she heard the roaring from inside.

It was obviously William Bennett's voice, but she'd never heard him this irate before.

Even when William had fought with Alexander Mitchell, he hadn't lost control like this.

The sound of his roar was indeed frightening.

"Vicky, what's gotten into your brother? He seems really furious," Ava said.

She knew everyone had an angry side, with no exceptions, but she had never envisioned this side of William Bennett.

The gentleman, normally so polite and courteous, now seemed to be a study in contrast.

Even knowing that no one is perfect, hearing William like this took Ava by surprise.

Seeing Ava's furrowed brow, Victoria whispered in her ear, "What's wrong? Did my brother scare you?"

Ava attempted a smile, "I just think that he must be very angry about something, he sounds very strong. It shouldn't be a big deal."

She was relieved to realize that William wasn't having a personal health crisis; her worries were unfounded!

It was quite amusing that she'd taken a dream so seriously.

Since it was a company issue, she was confident that he could handle it, and there was no need for her to worry.

"Vicky, since your brother is fine, I'm sure he can handle the company matters. I'll take my leave," Ava reassured her.

"No need to worry about me," Ava said with relief, turning to depart.

Victoria caught her by the arm, "Hold on, where are you going? Since you're here, why not meet my brother?"

"That might not be necessary," Ava chuckled. "He sounds really busy. I wouldn't want to waste his time. I'll just go."

"Don't be like that," Victoria insisted hurriedly. "If you leave now and my brother finds out, he'll think it's my fault for not keeping you here. He'd definitely want to see you."

"I'd rather not," Ava shook her head.

William was clearly very angry right now. If she disturbed him, it would probably only make things worse.
Victoria Bennett gripped Ava Anderson's arm tightly, determined to drag her to the doorway of William Bennett's office.

"I don't want to go, I don't want to go," Ava Anderson resisted vehemently, shaking her head. "Vicky, I don't want to go. Your brother will be angry; he's already furious."

"It doesn't matter," Victoria Bennett said dismissively.

"But he will be even angrier when he sees me, and I don't want to be yelled at," Ava protested, resembling a little girl who hadn't done her homework and was being hauled by a classmate to face the teacher.

Victoria was much stronger than Ava.

In a matter of seconds, they had arrived at the door of William Bennett's office.

Victoria raised her hand and knocked loudly.
