Chapter 1048 My Responsibility
William felt puzzled. "What's wrong, Ava? It's been so long since we last met. Can't I give you a hug?"
They were married, after all.
But why did Ava look at him like a stranger?
Could it be that she had changed because he had been spending so much time with Alexander over the past three months?
William knew what Ava had been up to at Stellaria. She often had meals with Alexander, but it was just meals, nothing more. Otherwise, William would have lost it long ago.
Even so, William couldn't stand them having meals together. He had been holding in his anger back home.
But he couldn't go to Stellaria; he was wanted there.
Ava said, "William, thank you for taking care of Sunny during this time."
"Why are you being so polite? He's my child too," William said. "Sunny has been crying a lot. Let me hold him for a while."
William reached out to hold Sunny, but Ava took a step back. "No, I'll hold him. You've been taking care of him all this time, and he's become distant from me. So from now on, I'll take care of him myself."
William smiled faintly. "Of course, but Sunny is crying a lot right now. I want to calm him down. He needs a diaper change. Let me do it."
Ava refused. "No, I'll change him."
William felt that Ava was indeed different, and he was a bit uneasy.
William said, "Then come with me. I'll get a diaper for Sunny."
Ava followed William to the room.
The diapers were in the nursery. William took out a new one.
Ava carefully placed Sunny in the bassinet and changed his diaper.
Her movements were a bit clumsy, but she was meticulous and careful.
She held Sunny's little face and said, "I'm sorry, I'm clumsy, but don't worry. I'll learn and take good care of you."
William said from the side, "Even if you don't do it well, it's okay. I'm here too."
William was overjoyed that Ava had come back.
"Ava," he said, holding her hand, "I've missed you so much. You're finally back. Let's go out for dinner tonight. What do you want to eat?"
"William," Ava pulled her hand back, "why do you think I can't take good care of Sunny? Do you think only you can take care of him?"
William gave an awkward smile. "Ava, that's not what I meant. I meant that you've been working too hard."
Ava said, "It's okay, I'm not tired. Sunny is my child. It's my responsibility to take care of him. You don't need to worry about it anymore. I'll take care of him myself."
Seeing Ava's cold demeanor, William was stunned.
William asked, "Ava, what do you mean by that? I'm Sunny's father too. I have a responsibility to take care of him."
"That responsibility is mine alone," Ava said. "Sunny is my child. I'm his biological mother. You're not his father."
Ava's voice rose, and as she finished speaking, Sunny seemed startled and began to cry loudly.
William, shocked, was about to comfort Sunny, but Ava quickly pushed him away.
She would do it herself.
She gently rocked Sunny in her arms. "Sunny, don't cry. I'm here. It's okay."
Gradually, Sunny stopped crying, and Ava breathed a sigh of relief.
Sunny yawned, looking sleepy, and then closed his eyes.
