Chapter 547 I Was Teasing You
He wanted to make love to her.
Alexander gave a faint smile, and said, "It's nothing. It's just that I haven't seen you smile like this in a long time. It's very beautiful."
"You mean I'm ugly when I don't smile?" Ava looked at him seriously.
Alexander quickly said, "I didn't mean that."
Even when she wasn't smiling, he wanted to make love to her.
In his mind, he was already fantasizing about making love to her, but his face showed a bit of panic. "Ava, what I meant was..."
"Alright," Ava smiled faintly, "I was just teasing you."
She didn't know what had gotten into her, and she just wanted to play a joke on Alexander. He was usually so serious, always with a straight face. Ava found it quite amusing to witness his unease. The thing was, she seemed to know exactly how to make him flustered now.
"Ava, you're teasing me." He eyed her with a touch of annoyance.
"You've bullied me so many times. What's wrong with me teasing you for a moment?"
Ava's words were also a joke. However, when she saw Alexander's slightly changed expression, she realized that some jokes shouldn't be made lightly.
Her words were nothing more than a casual comment, but to him, they carried weight.
Alexander lowered his eyes. "I'm sorry."
"I was just joking. I'm over it. Otherwise, I wouldn't be standing here with you now."
Alexander stared at her with eyes full of desolation. "But you don't love me anymore, do you?"
Ava gazed at Alexander in a daze. In the past, she had harbored many illusions about him, but now she worried that he might be under a misapprehension about her.
He might think that there was still a chance for him as she was standing by his side.
However, Ava knew in her heart that Alexander had no chance. Once the opportunity slipped through your fingers, it was gone forever. She didn't wish to lead him on, so she simply nodded.
"Yes, haven't you always wanted to know the answer? I can tell you clearly, Alexander, I don't love you anymore."
There should be no illusions between them. The past wounds ran too deep for her to accept him again. Even though she did not harbor hatred towards Alexander, she no longer wished to love him.
As Ava uttered these words, a sense of sorrow enveloped her, yet she remained outwardly composed, her gaze calmly fixed upon him. "If I have misled you in any way, I apologize. Today, our presence here is solely for grandmother's sake. I hope you can understand and not read into any further intentions."
Alexander's whole body stiffened like a stone, as if a light that had finally been ignited in his dark world was instantly extinguished by a gust of chilly wind, cutting his skin and piercing his heart, torturing every inch of him.
Ava gazed silently at him as Alexander drifted into reverie. Feeling a sense of disquiet, she was about to speak when someone approached from the side.
"Mr. Mitchell, it's been a while."
Alexander gently tugged at the corners of his mouth. "Excuse me, I must step away for a moment."
Turning around, every finger on his hand trembled, fearing he might act recklessly if he stayed any longer.
The individual, holding a glass awkwardly, warmly greeted, yet failed to catch Alexander's glance.
As Alexander departed, Ava smiled and remarked, "Please excuse him, there might be something urgent."
"I see. Ms. Mitchell, it seems you and Alexander share a close bond. You truly are a perfect match."
Ava forced a courteous smile, appearing entirely composed. Yet, inside, she felt a mix of sadness and resignation. "Thank you."
