Chapter 512 A Mess on the Ground
Soon, a scent of lilies filled the car.
Upon catching a whiff of this fragrance, Ava felt remarkably at ease, prompting her to involuntarily remark. "Scarlett has a fondness for lilies. You have quite the attentive touch."
This statement was sincere on her part, devoid of any ulterior motive.
"My attentiveness is only for my grandma. When I tried to be considerate to others, some people fail to appreciate it." Alexander continued driving ahead.
Ava knew what he meant.
"If your attentiveness means expressing love to someone abruptly, attempting to seize without consent, and displaying domineering behavior, then indeed that person should not be appreciated."
If she didn't fight back, it would seem like her fault for not appreciating it.
"Then how should I do?"
Ava's hand on her knee gently clenched into a fist, with cold sweat in her palm. "Sometimes, if others don't want something, it's best not to insist on giving it. Taking it back is the best option."
"I accidentally made a mess that couldn't be cleaned up," Alexander spoke softly, his voice calm but with a hint of resentment. Their eyes were fixed straight ahead, but Ava could feel his intense emotion.
She glanced at his tense profile and tried to say something, but she was worried that they might argue again on the way to Scarlett's house, causing a scene. So, she remained silent.
Their conversation ended with Alexander's words, and they safely arrived at Scarlett's house.
Scarlett welcomed Alexander and Ava with a smile.
However, they discovered that Scarlett was sitting in a wheelchair. When they last met, she could walk independently with a cane. However, now she needed someone to push her out.
Ava and Alexander felt very guilty, realizing they had recently neglected Scarlett for their affairs.
As people age, their bodies progressively deteriorate. This is especially true for Scarlett, who suffers from common chronic illnesses, a stark reminder of how quickly time is passing.
"Grandma." Ava came to the wheelchair, squatted down, and held her hand. "I'm sorry we didn't come to see you until today."
Ava's eyes were red.
Scarlett smiled and patted her head. "It's okay. I know you're busy. You can't come to see me every day. It would waste your time."
"Grandma, should Alexander and I take you to the hospital for a check-up?"
"I'm fine," Scarlett smiled, "I am in a wheelchair because I'm too lazy to walk. I'm old now, so I have to be more careful. What if I fall while walking? Look, I can stand up."
As she spoke, Scarlett tried to stand up.
Ava quickly held her down. "Grandma, it's okay. If you feel comfortable sitting, you don't need to walk on your own."
They were indeed concerned about Scarlett, considering her age.
Many older adults passed away due to falls. It was difficult to recover after they fell.
For the elderly, broken bones were hard to be mended, and internal bleeding from a fall couldn't be operated on due to their advanced age.
"Grandma, honestly, let Alexander and me take you for a check-up."
"Why do I need a check-up? Don't worry. I had a check-up a few days ago, and I'm in the same condition. You really don't need to worry about me. There are so many people taking care of me."
Ava still felt uneasy. "Then where is your check-up report? Can you show it to me?"
Ava was worried like a mother suspecting her child of lying.
