Chapter 870 Breakdown of Emotions
"No, it's cool with me," William said softly. "You're my wife, and I'm his dad. I gotta take care of him like a dad should. Taking care of you both is my job."
The guests around them were throwing envious looks their way.
William gently held Sunny. "Sunny, be a good kid. Your mom loves you a ton. She went through hell and back to bring you into this world, so I want her to get some rest. So, next time you're with your mom, try not to cry so much, okay? It makes her sad."
Ava stared at William, her eyes all dreamy, like she could see a glowing halo of fatherly love around him.
William had been there for her during her worst times, taking care of her and protecting her when she needed it most. Even though she was carrying Alexander's kid, he was willing to treat Sunny like his own and care for him with all his heart.
After giving birth, she had worried about postpartum depression or emotional instability.
But none of that happened because William was there to support her, help her take care of Sunny, and provide her with emotional support.
It was hard to imagine that many women in the world have to take care of their children alone after giving birth, facing indifferent husbands and swallowing their breakdowns alone. But none of that happened to her.
William had done so much for her, and she was truly moved, especially since William wasn't Sunny's biological father.
They hadn't even consummated their marriage.
Ava couldn't hold back her emotions and threw herself into William's arms, hugging him. "Thank you, honey."
William was stunned. Hearing the word "honey," his first reaction was to think he had misheard. He looked down at Ava in disbelief.
Ava, unable to hold back her emotions, said tearfully, "You've been so good to me. I really don't know what I can do for you."
William was slowly breaking down her defenses, bit by bit.
They were indeed married, legally husband and wife, and William treated her so well, even treating Sunny as his own.
In contrast, Sunny's biological father, Alexander, didn't want Sunny at all.
So, in a moment of overwhelming emotion, she called him "honey."
William had done so much for her, and calling him "honey" seemed like the only thing she could do for him.
"Can I call you that more often from now on?" Ava asked.
Maybe she couldn't accept him all at once, but she was willing to change for William, starting with how she addressed him.
William's eyes were full of tenderness, a hint of excitement flickering in them.
He suppressed his jubilant emotions and hoarsely said, "Of course, sweetie."
With one arm around Sunny and the other around Ava, they stood together as a family of three.
A round of thunderous applause erupted around them.
At that moment, the pianist in the restaurant played a light and cheerful tune for them.
Not far away, Alexander watched the scene silently. He seemed to turn into a statue, motionless, his soul drained, every inch of him turning to stone.
His eyes flickered with extreme pain. He stood there in a daze, almost unable to stand, stumbling back a few steps and nearly falling.
Beside him, Madison quickly supported him. "Mr. Mitchell, let's go. Don't watch anymore."
Everything that had just happened was witnessed by them.
Alexander's sudden emotional collapse was particularly intense.
