Chapter 37 Misunderstood

Ava laughed bitterly. "What did I do behind your back? Hurt your precious Isabella? Do you even know the whole story? You only heard what I said, but not what she said!"

"Enough!" Alexander cut in, "I know exactly what she said. I can show you Isabella's medical records. If you knew what she's been through, you'd feel ashamed, not questioning her here!"

Ava was momentarily speechless. She had doubted Isabella because she looked perfectly healthy when she saw her at the restaurant. But Alexander was convinced otherwise.

Alexander had been with Isabella at the hospital. If Isabella wanted to fake it, it would be difficult.

But not impossible. Even Ava had faked things in front of Alexander, like hiding her pregnancy.

Putting Isabella's health aside, she was clearly acting. She would say certain things when Alexander was around to make Ava respond, leading to misunderstandings.

"Alexander, don't be mad. It's my fault. I told Ava about my health issues. It's normal for her to doubt. She didn't know. Don't blame her," Isabella said, playing the victim. She seemed to be defending Ava, but it was actually to gain sympathy.

Ava, not crying or showing guilt, looked like a bully now. People tend to sympathize with the weaker party.

A fish can't see the water it swims in. Even baseless rumors online could convince people, let alone complicated real-life situations.

"Isabella, don't cry. Your health is important," Alexander said, wiping her tears with a tissue.

Isabella's tears flowed easily. She held Alexander's hand tightly. "Promise me you won't be mad at her. Forgive her. I don't want you to fight because of me."

Alexander turned and gave Ava a cold look, then gently said to Isabella, "Alright, I forgive her."

Seeing them holding hands tightly, Ava felt no sadness, only anger. "Alexander, who are you to forgive me? What did I do wrong that needs your forgiveness?"

Why did they get to stand on moral high ground and forgive her? They were the unreasonable ones.

"Enough," Alexander said angrily, as if Ava was being unreasonable. He was losing patience.

"You think I'm making a scene?" Ava was furious. She suddenly rushed forward and forcefully separated their hands.

Alexander was stunned by her sudden action and then angrily asked, "Are you crazy? What are you doing?"

"Yes, I'm crazy. I'm making a scene. Since you said it, I might as well live up to it!"

"Are you feeling wronged?" Alexander seemed to find it laughable. "What has made you feel mistreated?"

"How dare you ask? Didn't you say it yourself? We're still married, even if it's just for one more day. What do you mean by being so intimate with her in front of your wife?"

She had a temper, but she had kept it in check. This time, Alexander had gone too far, so she couldn't take it anymore. Since he was being so outrageous and they were getting divorced, why should she hold back?

"Stop being unreasonable. Move aside," Alexander said coldly, pushing Ava aside, "Isabella, let's go."

"We haven't finished lunch," Isabella said, tearfully looking at the lunch on the table.

"Throw it away. I'll take you out to eat," he said, helping Isabella up.

"Alexander, don't go too far!" Ava had never lost her mind like this before.

"Am I going too far?" Alexander turned and questioned, "What did you do to Isabella? And you're calling me unreasonable!"
