Chapter 26 Kissing Her
"Why are you just standing there? Take it."
Ava opened the gift. It was a stunning diamond bracelet. She didn't know much about diamonds, but she could tell this one was high-quality and expensive.
"I didn't expect you to get me a birthday gift."
"I forgot your birthday earlier and didn't get anything. I just bought this today to make up for it," he said casually, like it was no big deal.
"Oh, thanks."
It made sense he had forgotten her birthday since Isabella had just come back. From now on, he'd only remember Isabella's birthday.
Alexander sat on the edge of the bed and put the bracelet on her wrist. The sparkling diamonds made her smooth skin look even more radiant.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. Keep wearing it."
His deep eyes stared at her, like there was something more he wanted to say.
Ava gently touched the bracelet, feeling a mix of emotions.
"It's beautiful." Alexander lightly hugged her shoulder, holding her delicate frame.
Ava nodded. "It is beautiful."
But it wasn't what she wanted.
Staring at Ava's flawless profile, Alexander was momentarily lost. Then he suddenly grabbed her chin, turned her face towards him, and leaned in to kiss her. Ava had kissed him many times before, so her first reaction wasn't to refuse but to close her eyes.
Just as their lips touched, a phone rang. Alexander seemed annoyed, but when he saw Isabella calling, the annoyance vanished instantly. He answered the phone and put it to his ear. "What's up, Isabella? I see. I'll be right there."
After hanging up, he immediately stood up. "I have to go."
"Oh, okay," Ava responded coolly, but her heart was breaking.
Seeing her silent demeanor, Alexander opened his mouth as if to say something but ultimately said nothing and left.
Ava collapsed weakly onto the bed, touching the diamond bracelet on her wrist.
No matter what happened, in any situation, he would always choose Isabella.
After Alexander left, Ava called the school to check on William. Learning he was in the hospital, she got the address and rushed over.
Ava found William's hospital room. The door was open, and she saw a doctor examining him. Seeing Ava, William smiled. "Ms. Anderson, you're here."
Ava quickly walked up. "Doctor, how is he?"
The doctor replied, "Mr. Bennett has two broken ribs."
"What?" Ava was very worried. "Is his life in danger?"
William was about to tell her he was fine, but seeing her worried expression, he hesitated and swallowed his words.
The doctor shook his head. "Don't worry. It's not serious. The bones have been set, but he needs to stay in the hospital for observation overnight."
"That's good." Ava sighed in relief. "Thank you."
The doctor nodded and then left the room.
Ava sat in the chair next to the bed, looking guilty. "I'm sorry, Mr. Bennett. It's all my fault. Are you in a lot of pain?"
"It's okay. Are you alright? Are you hurt?" He was more concerned about her.
"I'm fine." Ava gently touched her stomach. The baby was fine, too.
She didn't know how to appreciate William and couldn't tell him about her pregnancy directly.
