Chapter 754 Hurried Away

Dalton's earlier seriousness had softened into a fatherly tenderness.

His words gave Vicky some comfort.

"Dad, I understand," she said.

"As long as you do. I'm really glad you could join me for dinner tonight. I even had the kitchen make your favorite dishes," Dalton said gently.

He didn't want Vicky to know Mia was here, but Mia was so exhausted that not even thunder could wake her.

After Vicky finished dinner, she'd leave, and then he'd go back to Mia.

"Thanks, Dad," Vicky smiled. "No matter what, remember we're family, and I'll always be your daughter. I understand you have your reasons for wanting a divorce. Maybe it's better for both of you. I just want you to be happy. If you ever meet someone who makes you happy, you have to tell me. I'll support you."

Dalton smiled with relief. "You're a good daughter. Don't worry, if that day comes, I'll tell you. No matter what, your mom will always have an important place in my heart."

Though that place had nothing to do with love.

Dalton's heart had always belonged to Mia, from beginning to end.

For Hailey, he mostly felt guilt.

Even though he was selfish, cold, and ruthless, human nature is complex.

Hailey had done so much for him and kept many things hidden. Even after their divorce, she never exposed his dirty secrets.

He felt some guilt and gratitude towards her.

But guilt and gratitude couldn't sustain their life together.

Hailey wanted his love, which he couldn't give.

Originally, he didn't love her, but he could still live with her. However, Hailey eventually couldn't take it anymore and wanted a divorce.

So, he accepted it.

He couldn't explain all this to Vicky; his relationship with Hailey was too complicated.

Vicky had dinner with Dalton, and they chatted and laughed.

It had been a long time since they had done this.

To be precise, it seemed like they had never done this before. Dalton had always been very serious and didn't pay much attention to her.

Tonight, they were having a great time.

Dalton was like an ordinary father doting on his daughter, not the high and mighty CEO.

They drank quite a bit.

Vicky stood up and said, "Dad, I'm going to the restroom. I'll be right back to drink with you."

Dalton waved his hand. "Go ahead."

Vicky stumbled out of the dining room.

At the staircase, she looked up and, seeing no one around, ran upstairs.

She reached Dalton's bedroom door, pressed her ear against it, and then carefully turned the doorknob, opening it just a crack to peek inside.

A woman was lying on the bed, turned away from Vicky.

Vicky was shocked.

The woman on the bed had long hair draped over her exposed shoulders. It was clear that she was not wearing any clothes.

Mandy was right; Dalton was indeed having an affair. Who was she?

Was she the mistress who caused her parents' divorce?

Vicky's blood pressure soared in anger.

How could Dalton do something so outrageous!

Vicky was about to rush in to see who the woman was, but then she realized that confronting them now would be pointless. Things had already gone too far.

If she did that, Dalton would be furious, and it would only make it harder for her to find out who the woman was. She needed to be smarter than that.

Suddenly, she heard footsteps approaching.

Vicky quickly closed the door and hurried away.
