Chapter 515 Ostentatious Rivalry

Alexander suddenly placed a chicken wing on Ava's plate. Ava immediately said, "I can't eat anymore."

Alexander lifted his gaze to meet hers, locking eyes in a meaningful exchange.

Ava's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly looked away.

Scarlett smiled at them without saying a word.

Soon, Alexander took back the chicken wing he had put on Ava's plate and ate it himself, as if to say, "If you won't eat it, I will."

Ava breathed a sigh of relief, feeling it was better than being forced to eat it.

She actually disliked people who forcefully showed warmth. Evidently, she didn't want to eat, but someone insisted on giving her more food. She didn't want to drink alcohol, but someone insisted on pouring it for her. If she refused, she would be accused of disrespecting them.

At least in this aspect, Alexander had learned to change his behavior.

"Oh, by the way," Scarlett suddenly remembered something and said, "Ava, Alexander, there's something I'd like to ask for your help with."

"What is it? Feel free to tell us."

"It's like this," Scarlett said, "I have a friend whose granddaughter is getting married. She invited me to attend the wedding, but I've been feeling a bit tired these days. I don't want to go to such a lively place, so I told her I would ask you if you would like to go."

At this point, they understood her meaning.

"But Grandma, Alexander and I are already divorced."

Scarlett smiled awkwardly, "I didn't tell her that you two are divorced. Honestly, those friends have always been competing with me. What else could older adults like us compete? It's just about whose family is happier and more harmonious. Could you pretend that you are not divorced for the sake of my vanity and attend their wedding?"

"Grandma, this..." Ava hesitated, "Isn't it inappropriate? What if they find out the truth?"

"If you don't say it, and I don't say it, who would know?" Scarlett looked at her sincerely.

Ava still hesitated while Alexander remained silent.

Seeing this situation, Scarlett sighed, "If it's not okay with you, forget it. I won't force you. I can't help but feel a bit envious when I see all my friends' grandchildren getting married. It makes me feel a bit vain. I'm sorry, it's my fault. I shouldn't have pressured you. But fortunately, I just asked you, and I hadn't accept her invitation."

Although Scarlett apologized sincerely, Ava felt that she must have been very uncomfortable, and she still hadn't let go of the fact that she and Alexander were divorced.

Ava couldn't bear to see her so upset.

While comparison is not a favorable practice, it is sometimes inevitable.

After all, Alexander and Ava had divorced, and she must have felt unhappy. Seeing others happy would only make her feel more lost.

Ava turned to look at Alexander, wanting to ask if he was willing to go.

She didn't mind. She could go along with this act to make Scarlett happy.

However, if she agreed directly, she wondered if Alexander would be unhappy. After all, they were already divorced. Her agreement didn't necessarily mean Alexander would agree.

She wanted to ask, but hesitated to do so in front of Scarlett. If Alexander disagreed, she feared Scarlett might blame him.

The atmosphere grew tense as they both fell into a heavy silence.
