Chapter 642 Safe and Sound

When Ava arrived at Scarlett's house, the kitchen staff was preparing dinner.

In the living room, Scarlett held Ava's hand. "Ava, why do I feel like you've gotten a bit rounder? Looks like you've been eating well lately."

Ava smiled, "Grandma, I have indeed gained some weight. I have something to tell you."

"What is it?"

"Can you promise me first that you won't get angry if I tell you? I'm afraid you'll get angry."

"Go ahead, how could I ever be angry with you?"

Ava stayed silent for a moment, feeling uneasy, but after much hesitation, she told Scarlett about her pregnancy and her marriage to William.

Scarlett fell silent immediately as soon as she heard that. She let go of Ava's hand, her expression becoming somewhat serious.

"Grandma, I'm sorry. It's my fault. I should have told you sooner, but I had just gotten divorced at the time. I was afraid that you would force Alex to remarry me because of the pregnancy, so I didn't say anything. I'm sorry."

Scarlett turned her head to look at her and raised her hand to gently caress Ava's belly, sighing, "I'm such an old fool! I didn't even know about this. If I had known earlier, maybe..."

She wondered what might have changed if she had known earlier.

"Grandma, it's all my fault. Please don't be angry. If you're unhappy, just scold me."

Scarlett heaved out a sigh. "At my age, I've been through a lot. I'm not angry with you. I'm just a bit sad that I found out so late. You must have suffered a lot."

"No, I haven't suffered much, Grandma. Don't worry, I'll take good care of myself."

Scarlett continued, "So you were telling me that you're going abroad with William tomorrow for his treatment."

Ava nodded, "Yes, the treatment method is very good. I want to take him to try it. If William regains his memory, I can divorce him."

"And after the divorce? You and Alex..."

"Grandma," Ava interrupted her, "Alex and I are impossible. He's marrying Isabella tomorrow."

Scarlett sighed, "I've heard about that too. Ava, don't you want to stop it? If you want, I can stop it."

"No need," Ava said. "Don't stop them. Let things take their course. If they want to get married, let them. Whether he marries Isabella or not, I won't be with him."

"What about the baby in your belly?"

"Grandma, I will give birth to the child and take good care of it."

"When do you plan to tell Alex?"

"I plan to tell him after I return from abroad. But now, I don't want to tell him. I don't want to face him anymore. I'm afraid he'll pester me if he knows I'm pregnant."

Scarlett said helplessly, "Who would have thought your relationship with Alex would turn out like this? That fool, he has lost you, where can he find such a good girl like you?"

"Grandma, no matter what, I'm still your granddaughter. When the child is born, you'll be the great-grandmother."

Scarlett said, "Things have indeed become complicated. Although I'm a bit angry with you for not telling me earlier, seeing you safe and sound puts my mind at ease. As long as you're happy, nothing matters. It was my fault , forcing you to marry Alex and delaying you. I promise not to pressure you anymore. If you want to bring the child back to the Mitchell family to raise, that's fine. If you don't want to, I won't insist. Just bring the child to see me often."

"Don't worry, the little one inside me is all Mitchell blood. The baby won't be estranged from you."

"That's good. I hope you will come back from the U.S. soon. You silly girl, using marriage to help a friend. What if they take advantage of you?"

"Grandma, if there's a chance, I'll bring William to you for dinner. Once you meet him, you'll know he won't hurt me."

"If you trust him, then I trust your judgment. Just follow your heart, no matter what."

"I understand. By the way, Grandma, please don't tell Alexander about my pregnancy for now, okay?"

Scarlett nodded, "If you don't want me to say, I won't. Tell him yourself when you come back."

Ava responded, "Okay, thank you."

Dinner was ready, and Ava accompanied Scarlett to the dining room to have dinner together. They chatted and laughed, even  brainstorming names for the baby.

But no matter how hard they tried, none of the names felt right, and in the end, they didn't settle on any of them.

Before they knew it, dinner was over. Ava chatted with Scarlett for a while longer, and then it was time to leave.

Scarlett didn't want Ava out too late, so leaving early was the safer option.
