Chapter 245 Just Friends

"I..." Ava Anderson abruptly realized that this man was truly a master at twisting words and leaving her speechless.
It wasn't so much that he was being unreasonable, but rather that she had been careless with her words. She had indeed told him to let her know if it hurt. If only she hadn't said that.

Yet, what Ava hadn't anticipated was that Alexander Mitchell seemed to be quite sensitive to pain, almost childishly so.

"Just bear with it a moment, I need to wrap the gauze around you; otherwise, your wound will be exposed and that's not safe."

Ava Anderson sat behind him, carefully wrapping bandages around him, her breath close and entwining around his ear, sometimes distant, sometimes near.

As her hands once again brushed against his chest, and she leaned forward to maneuver the gauze with her left hand over her right, Alexander suddenly turned his head, his lips accidentally brushing Ava's nose.

Frozen in place, Ava felt an electric shock through her nose tip.

Without any further reaction, Alexander simply turned his head back as if nothing had happened.

Coming back to her senses, Ava realized her heart had just ached.

Even a mere brush against his nose made her feel an indescribable pain when in such close proximity to this man.

Her heart throbbed slightly, the pain not like that of a surface cut, but a suffocating sensation.

If she had to choose, she'd take physical pain over this piercing heartache any day.

"What are you daydreaming about?" Alexander turned to her, his deep gaze searching, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Ava forced a smile, her face betraying no emotion, but a hint of sadness flickered in her eyes.

She hurriedly finished wrapping the gauze around his back wound, cutting the bandage and securing it.

"That's it. If you're going to sleep, you should lie on your stomach or your side, but definitely not on your back."

Her tone was that of a stern mommy.

His wounds would take at least four or five days to heal. Grandma had been too heavy-handed. How could she be so heartless with her own grandson?

While Ava understood Grandma's feelings, she also felt sad for the pain Alexander was enduring.

Ava lowered her head, silently tidying up the contents of the first aid kit.

Seeing Ava getting ready to leave, Alexander quickly asked, "Where are you going?"

"I'm just going to put away the first aid kit," Ava responded, turning to him.

Alexander let out a sigh of relief; he thought Ava was going to leave for good.

Even though they were divorced, he couldn't understand why he was so afraid of her leaving at this moment.
After putting away the medicine cabinet, Ava Anderson returned to the room.

It was already five in the afternoon, and it was time to get dinner started. Ava walked up to ask what he'd like for dinner, but before she could speak, Alexander Mitchell preempted her with a question: "Just friends?"

Ava Anderson paused, perplexed, "What are you talking about?"

"Is it true what you said, that you and William Bennett are just friends?"

Ava Anderson suddenly realized how slow Alexander Mitchell was on the uptake. His out-of-the-blue question left her momentarily at a loss for words.

The matter had been clarified repeatedly; she and William were just friends. But he wouldn't believe it. What more could she do?

And now he was asking again.

Scratching her forehead in resignation, Ava said, "We're divorced now, and I've answered this question and explained it many times. Even when I tell you, you don't believe me, so why ask again?"

She wasn't angry, just spoke in an incredibly calm manner.
