Chapter 1031 Cruel Trample

A cry welled up inside Madison. 'Why are you treating me like this?'

She clutched her heart and slowly made her way to her hospital room.

Madison closed her eyes, wincing in pain, as the world around her faded to a colorless haze.

People were all about deceit and calculation, even the ones closest to you.

Suddenly, Madison remembered something and pulled a pill out of her pocket.

That guy gave it to her last night.

Should she really take it? What if it killed her?

But if he wanted her dead, he could've done it already; no need for this sneaky stuff.

Her heart condition had no fix except a transplant.

But if she trusted him and got tricked, wouldn't she be asking for trouble?

If she didn't take the pill, she could still live a while, just weak and always at risk.

Madison was torn. She gripped the pill tightly in her hand.

In the hospital room, Alexander casually placed breakfast on the small table by Ava's bed.

"Eat it while it's hot," he said.

"It's morning; you should be with Madison, not wasting time here with me," Ava replied.

"Time's mine to waste as I please. Now eat your breakfast," Alexander shot back.

Seeing his determined look, Ava had nothing more to say.

After they quietly finished breakfast, Alexander cleaned up and then folded away the small table.

"I'm going to check on Madison. You rest first," he said.

With that, Alexander got up and left the room.

Ava stayed silent.

Still wearing yesterday's clothes, Alexander went to a nearby hotel and had someone bring him a clean set.

After showering and changing, he headed back to the hospital and straight to Madison's room.

Madison had been waiting a while; it was nearly nine when Alexander finally showed up.

"Alexander." She noticed his clean suit and neatly combed hair, though his eyes looked tired.

"Madison." He placed the breakfast he was carrying on the table. "Sorry, I had some stuff to handle, so I'm a bit late. Are you hungry?"

Madison smiled gently. "It's okay, I knew you'd come." Alexander set up the breakfast. "Madison, eat up."

"Alexander, did you not sleep well last night?" she asked.

He gave a faint smile. "I slept fine."

"You look like you have dark circles under your eyes, like you didn't sleep well. Alexander, don't lie to me. Did you go do something last night?" Madison pressed.

Alexander smiled and said no. "Maybe I just went to bed late."

"Alexander, you've been so tired lately. It's my fault; I should let you sleep more in this morning," Madison added.

"It's okay," Alexander said. "I was already up when you called me. I couldn't sleep anyway."
