Chapter 139 Unveiling the True Self
Ava's hand moved to her cheeks, brushing away the remnants of her tears as she forced a hollow laugh to escape her lips. "So, this is the real you, Alexander Mitchell ," she said, her voice laced with a bitter chill. "I had my suspicions, but seeing is believing. You're nothing more than a contemptible cad. I don't ever want to see you again!"
With those final words, she spun on her heel, preparing to depart.
The tears, the emotional outbursts, the tantrums - they had all been in vain.
She no longer wished to be entwined in the mess that was him.
"Hold on." Alexander's voice rang out, his hand shooting out to latch onto her wrist.
His lips parted as if to utter some form of explanation, but before he could, William stepped forward, seizing Ava's other wrist. "Let her go!"!"
"What does it matter to you? She's my wife. Back off!" Alexander retorted, his voice echoing with a fiery rage.
William responded with a dismissive scoff. "Your wife? You have some nerve, Alexander. Just look at the mess you've created!"
"Whatever I've done is none of your concern. Let go of Ava!"
Ava herself wrenched her wrist free from Alexander's grip. "You should be the one to let go!" she cried out. "Alexander, I'm so disillusioned by you. I never thought you could be this kind of man. It's terrifying, you know? I obtained the divorce papers from our grandmother, but you vanished. After all this time searching, I find you in this state! What a lovely scene. It seems I'm the fool. Regardless of whether we divorce or not, you had no qualms about frolicking with Isabella, without a care in the world!"
Upon hearing mention of the documents, Isabella's face lit up with a spark of anticipation. "What did you say? You have the documents?"
Her eyes danced with delight as she clung to Alexander's arm, giving it a gentle shake. "Alex, did you hear that? She has the documents, you can get a divorce now. You're finally free."
Alexander remained silent, his gaze downcast and shadowed.
"Come on, Alex, why don't you two just finalize the divorce now? It's Monday, we've still got time. Just go, and once it's over, we can be together, openly, without any judgment."
In the entire room, Isabella appeared to be the only one radiating joy.
Her gaze settled on Ava, her eyes gleaming with a cold, triumphant light.
Alexander extricated himself from Isabella's grip, his brows furrowing. “Go and get dressed,” he ordered tersely.
"Alex," Isabella started, but Alexander cut her off with a cold, dismissive glance.
Isabella’s heart fluttered, realizing that Alex must disapprove of her exposing herself in front of others. She adjusted her clothing and retreated into the walk-in closet to dress.
“How on earth did you manage to find the marriage certificates? They weren’t in the box.” Alexander questioned, buttoning up his shirt as he spoke.
“Do I need to spell it out for you again? How can you be so brazen!” she snapped back.
The man, caught in the act, had the audacity to act nonchalant, as if nothing had transpired.
"Don't speak ill of Alex." Isabella emerged from the closet, now clad in a trench coat, “You're well aware that Alex is unhappy with you. What’s the real story behind your marriage anyway? He loves me. It’s only natural for us to be together. You’re getting a divorce anyway, so why make a fuss? Ava, I'm saying this for your own good, just finalize the divorce with Alex, then you can move on to someone else."
