Chapter 335 Redemption through Deeds
"I do, but..." Ava didn't tell him that Mia was her ex-husband's mother.
Strictly speaking, they were no longer family, but they were still close.
She was afraid that if Dalton knew about their relationship, he would not believe her. Saving William was her top priority.
"I don't believe you. Refusing to lend to Wisdom Future Group doesn't mean anything. Unless..." Dalton's firm tone suddenly changed, "I want to talk to her in person, otherwise I won't believe you..."
"Alright, I'll make her tell you in person. Wait a moment."
Ava took out her phone, walked aside, and sent a text message to Mia.
Ava: [Mia, can you do me a favor? My friend's father thinks he lost a project. This project was taken away by Wisdom Future Group, and now he wants to punish my friend harshly. I can only help him avoid punishment if I prove that Wisdom Future Group is at fault. Can you tell him that Wisdom Future Group has problems? As an authoritative figure, he will believe what you say.]
Soon, Mia replied.
Mia: [Okay.]
Ava breathed a sigh of relief and replied.
Ava: [Thank you, Mia. But please don't tell him about our relationship. I'm afraid he will feel deceived if he finds out.]
Mia: [Alright.]
Ava immediately called Mia.
The call quickly got picked up. Mia said, "Hello."
Ava said, "Wait a moment, let me give him the phone."
Ava returned to Dalton and handed him the phone.
Dalton stared at the phone in Ava's hand and paused. He seemed lost in his thoughts. He had a momentary lapse when he saw a series of numbers on the screen.
"Uncle Dalton?" Ava called him, but he didn't react.
Dalton snapped back to reality, feeling somewhat annoyed. It had been a while since he had zoned out like that.
After a brief hesitation, he took the phone and put it to his ear.
"Hello," Mia said, "I am the head of Frederick Bank. Whatever Ava has told you, she's telling the truth."
Listening to the voice he hadn't heard in a long time, Dalton clenched the phone. His voice was forced out as if by some external force.
"Ms. Thompson, it's Dalton."
Mia remained silent. A dreadful silence ensued.
Upon hearing this voice, the person on the other end of the phone immediately hung up.
Dalton no longer heard any activity on the line.
Ava was unaware that Mia had hung up. She didn't understand why Dalton hadn't said anything. She wondered if Mia was still talking to Dalton alone.
She thought, 'But why did they talk for so long?'
After another ten seconds or so, Dalton's hand holding the phone suddenly dropped. He seemed somewhat disheartened.
"How did it go?" Ava asked, "Do you believe me? She is the head of Frederick Bank. If you don't believe me, you can investigate."
Dalton sighed softly and looked up, "Okay."
He returned the phone to Ava.
Ava took the phone and let out a sigh of relief. "Now that you believe me, I hope you can make a change. Will should be spared from punishment. To redeem himself, I hope you will let him handle this matter again. I believe he will do a great job."
"How did you meet Ms. Thompson?" Dalton asked.
Ava hesitated. She thought, 'If he knows about my relationship with Mia, will he feel deceived? He might think we conspired to deceive him.'
