Chapter 935 Strange Sound
'It's all on me, totally my fault. I should've gone after her, shouldn't have let her leave alone. If I had just chased her without thinking twice, Ava wouldn't have had that accident. She came to find me late at night, and I let her go back alone? One moment of hesitation, and look what happened,' Alexander thought, full of regret.
Alexander knelt beside the wrecked car. "I'm sorry, Ava, I'm so sorry. It's all my fault. I'm such a jerk, a complete jerk!"
He lied to hurt her, all because of his stupid pride.
Once again, he ditched her for another woman, leaving Ava to fend for herself. Now he got why Ava hated him, why she couldn't forgive him.
He was just a jerk, through and through. He always made her sad, always left her. First, he hurt her for Isabella, and now for Madison.
He didn't deserve her, never would. If Ava died, he wouldn't want to live either.
The night was falling, and Ava had no clue what Vincent was up to in the room. The door was shut, and she didn't want to bother him.
She was about to start cooking when she heard a loud noise.
She thought it came from outside.
Ava went to the window to check, but it was quiet out there, nothing going on.
She figured she must've misheard and was heading to the kitchen when she heard it again.
This time, it was a faint, continuous noise.
Ava felt like it was coming from underground, so she squatted down and pressed her ear to the floor.
Now she was sure it was coming from below.
What kind of noise was this? Was there something wrong with the foundation?
Ava looked around and spotted a small door. She walked over, opened it, and found a staircase leading down.
The staircase was pitch black, and she couldn't see the bottom.
There was a switch nearby. She reached out and flipped it, and the staircase lit up, but it looked really deep.
Ava got goosebumps. She cautiously walked down the stairs. The further she went, the louder the noise got. It sounded like human voices.
Ava's scalp tingled, and she screamed in fright, turning to run back up the stairs.
Suddenly, the basement door slammed shut, and Ava was terrified. She turned to see the dark staircase stretching into what seemed like hell, and terrifying images flashed through her mind.
The more she panicked, the harder it was to open the door.
The doorknob seemed rusted and wouldn't budge.
Was she going to be trapped in some horrible place? Was she running into ghosts?
The noise below kept getting closer. Ava raised her hand and pounded on the door, "Vincent, open the door, Vincent!"
The noise seemed to be right next to her, pounding in her ears.
Ava was almost scared out of her mind. Her legs went weak, and she nearly tumbled down the stairs, but at the last moment, the door opened, and a hand pulled her out, holding her tight.
Ava clung to Vincent, trembling all over, sweat rolling down her forehead. "There's a ghost!"
Vincent held her waist, glanced at the basement stairs, and then closed the door. "Why did you go over there?"
