Chapter 520 Always by His Side

"I don't know." Ava looked at him sadly. "I only know that hurting him is the same as hurting me."

Alexander involuntarily tightened his fists.

Yes, William and Ava were married. They cared about each other, and it was easy for them to empathize with one another.

Alexander wanted to say something, but the words got stuck in his throat. They were in the bathroom, after all, and what could they argue about here? It would only end in a farce. The more they said, the more mistakes they would make.

He sighed, turned around, and opened the bathroom door to leave.

Ava stood there for a long time, feeling very sad.

After secretly wiping away the tears at the corners of her eyes and composing herself, she finally left the bathroom.

Scarlett was delighted to learn that Ava and Alexander had agreed to attend the wedding as a couple.

"You two are wonderful. Thank you for indulging my vanity. I feel guilty about it. I promise I won't compare myself to others anymore. At my age, it's shameful to have vanity still."

Ava comforted her. " Grandma, please don't feel guilty. We, the younger generation, are more than happy to help you with anything."

"You are really nice." Scarlett knew they had just discussed things privately, and it was a calm discussion without any arguments. That was good. At least they could talk properly.

Later, after they had dinner with Scarlett, they chatted with her for a long time.

Unknowingly, it got very late, and it was time for them to leave. Scarlett reluctantly saw them to the door.

"Alex, make sure Ava gets back safe and sound. Otherwise, I will give you a piece of my mind," Scarlett said sternly.

Alexander responded, "Don't worry, Grandma. I will make sure she gets home safely."

"You are not allowed to bully Ava or be mean to her, understand?"

Scarlett seemed to have no trust in Alexander at all.

Ava stepped forward and said, "Grandma, we were fine on the way here. Nothing happened. Don't worry. I'll call you to let you know I'm safe when I get back. If he bullies me, I'll tell you."

"Make sure you tell me. Don't defend him. Before, he was your husband, and it was understandable to defend him. However, now that you're divorced, why would you still defend him? If he dares to be mean to you, tell me immediately, and I'll teach him a lesson."

Whether they were married or divorced, Scarlett always favored Ava.

Ava felt especially warm inside. "Got it, Grandma, I will."

Although Scarlett said that, Ava never spoke ill of Alexander to her. Even when he hurt her deeply, she chose to tolerate it.

Alexander drove Ava away.

They were very quiet on the road until Alexander spoke, "Should I take you back to the hospital, or somewhere else?"

Ava replied, "I'll go back to the hospital, thank you."

"Are you planning to stay at the hospital for a month to accompany William?"

Ava answered, "Yes, I will stay at the hospital with him until he is discharged."

"No wonder you don't look well. Taking care of him in the hospital every day, you must not be able to rest properly."

The scenes of Ava caring for William involuntarily caused him to tighten his grip on the steering wheel. He had never been able to bear the thought of Ava doing such things. Yet, at that very moment, another man was basking in the care she provided, filled with a sense of justifiable pride.

If only they hadn't divorced.

"If William really cared about you, he wouldn't let you stay in the hospital all the time. He could find more professional people to take care of him," Alexander couldn't help but say sarcastically.
