Chapter 78 Divorce Assets
"It’s alright. Perhaps she's merely upset with me, considering the past shared between Alex and myself..." Isabella's voice trailed off, her countenance reflecting a deep sense of regret. "But I assure you, I never intended to cause their separation. Alex and I have a long history, even before his marriage."
Her eyes welled up with tears, painting herself as an innocent victim and making Ava appear callous in contrast.
"Stop crying, dear. I'm well aware of the circumstances," Mia swiftly offered a tissue to blot her tears. "Such a beautiful face shouldn't be marred by distress. Alex would be devastated to see you in such a state."
"Alright, I'll refrain from crying. I'm truly delighted to be having lunch with you today," Isabella responded, her tears abruptly halting. She was the epitome of a darling, the type that elders found irresistible.
Ava was left dumbfounded. Was this luncheon with Mia solely to introduce Isabella, a potential future daughter-in-law? If that was the case, why was she even present?
"Thank you."
"Mom, I have some matters to attend to. If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave," Ava interjected.
She was eager to escape the situation.
"Why the haste? Didn't we agree over the phone last night? You're free today, isn't lunch with your mother-in-law a reasonable request? Don't behave childishly just because Miss Harrington is present. Show some maturity."
"I..."She sighed, feeling unfairly treated and questioning herself. Was she truly at fault? Was she behaving immaturely? The situation was nothing short of vexing.
If Mia wasn't Alexander's mother, Ava would have certainly refused to endure this.Isabella's lips curled into a smug smile, sensing that her potential future mother-in-law held no affection for Ava.
"Ava, you dare to douse me with water? Someone will seek retribution on my behalf, but I won't let this slide so easily."
Time passed, and the waiter served the meals they had ordered. The table was filled with conversation, primarily between Mia and Isabella, while Ava remained silent.
Despite not feeling particularly hungry, Ava dutifully finished her meal for the sake of the child she was carrying. Isabella, conversely, ate sparingly.
As the meal drew to a close, Mia reached into her handbag and produced a document folder.
"What's that?" Isabella inquired, curiosity piqued.
Mia opened the folder and pulled out a document torn in half, "This is the divorce settlement that Alex signed with Ava."
Ava, perplexed, asked, "Mom, why did you bring that?"
She had heard the settlement was torn and assumed it had been discarded, never anticipating Mia to have it.
"I intended to discard it, but I pieced the settlement back together and reviewed it. I suspect what Alex is offering you in assets may not be entirely fair."
She placed the divorce settlement and the folder on the table, "I need to visit the restroom. We'll discuss this upon my return."
With Mia temporarily absent, Isabella swiftly snatched the torn divorce settlement and pieced it together.
Upon reading the contents, she was completely taken aback. She dropped the settlement, her gaze locked onto Ava with boiling rage, "You're truly audacious, demanding such an exorbitant sum!"
Isabella was so livid she felt lightheaded, and what incensed her even more was that Ava had asked for so much and Alex had actually consented to it!
The assets outlined in the divorce settlement totaled at least two hundred million!
How could Alex be so generous? What did this woman possess to warrant such generosity?
