Chapter 575 Seeking Fortune On One's Own
"You were afraid I wouldn't live well, so you abandoned me? Was my life with you so great? You should know what kind of days I lived when you adopted me. You would get drunk and often lash out at me. I did all the household chores. My hands were worn out. Evidently, you took all the compensation from my parents, yet you wouldn't even cover my study materials. I was ostracized in class. You never cared."
"Are you complaining about me?" Evelyn said unhappily, "I adopted you. Otherwise, you would have been homeless."
"You dare say that," Ava retorted, "You spent all my parents' compensation money; why did you adopt me in the first place? You know it well."
Evelyn's expression turned ugly. "Look at what you're saying. How am I to be held liable for compensation? I am your closest relative, of course. I should be the one to adopt you. Since I raised you, why can't I spend your parents' compensation? After all, I took care of you, I ensured you survived, so could say I fairly earned that money."
Ava chuckled in anger. "You have quite the nerve. I don't want to talk to you anymore."
No matter what was said, Evelyn would always argue back, never admitting fault, but deep down Eva knew what kind of person she was. "Rest well here. Goodbye."
"Ava!" Evelyn shouted at her, "How can you treat me like this? After all these years, is this your attitude?"
"What attitude do you want from me, gratitude towards you? My current attitude towards you is justified," Ava replied.
Evelyn furiously said, "You blame me for abandoning you and spending the money, but if I hadn't done that, would you have the good life you have today? Would you become a wealthy lady? You owe it all to me. You don't even thank me. Instead, you treat me like this. You're truly ungrateful!"
Ava snorted. "You treat me like this, yet expect me to be grateful to you. I have nothing more to say to you. You call me ungrateful. I may not know gratitude, but regardless of what you say, I've done my utmost for you and paid your hospital bills. It's the only thing I can do and the only thing I'm willing to do for you. The rest is up to you."
Seeing Ava's cold demeanor, Evelyn was furious but dared not explode directly. After all, the initiative was in Ava's hands now.
As Ava was about to leave, Evelyn shouted loudly, "I was wrong. I truly know I was wrong. Can you forgive me?"
Ava reached the door, turned around, and said, "Fine, I forgive you."
Evelyn didn't expect Ava to forgive her so directly, so she was somewhat stunned. "Are you serious?"
"Yes, I am."
"That's great." Evelyn smiled. Since you've forgiven me and there's no conflict between us, can you lend me some money?"
Ava sneered. "I forgive you, and now you want to borrow money from me?"
"I'm your aunt; you've forgiven me; we're family," Evelyn remarked.
"You're my family. I've forgiven you, but so what? You are indeed my aunt, but forgiveness doesn't mean I have to lend you money, let alone that I want any future dealings with you. I did it to ease my mind, not to forget what you've done. I don't want to see you again. Seek your fortune elsewhere!"
