Chapter 58 Insistent on Arguing
Alexander's eyes were filled with hostility and a fiery edge, and William met him with an equally unyielding gaze, even adding a hint of disdain for him.
Sensing the tension between the two men, Ava quickly interjected, "Alex, why are you here?"
Alexander turned to Ava, "I went to your room and found you weren't there. The servant said you drove out, and you kept hanging up my calls. Your friend lied and said you were at her house. Why would you do that?" He had been truly frantic at the time, fearing that something had happened to her.
"So how did you know I was here?"
"I heard a doctor talking about a blood transfusion over the phone and guessed you were at the hospital. You mentioned before that you often come to Virtuous Heaven Hospital, so I thought you might be here. Even if you don't want to see me, you shouldn't play with your life like this. What if something happened to you on the road?"
Ava could clearly see the worry in his eyes. She had been angry with him, but now she couldn't help but soften a bit.
However, remembering the broken relationship between them, that softness quickly cooled.
"My stomach suddenly started hurting, and I was also mad at you, so I didn't want to tell you. I just called Amelia."
Even with Ava's explanation, Alexander was still angry, "Then what about William? You just said he's your friend too. Did you call him as well?"
"I..."
She didn’t know how to explain William’s presence.
Oh well, she might as well tell him the truth.
"I owe William a favor. He saved me before, so I promised him I'd treat him to a meal. He happened to call me when I was coming to the hospital, wanting to arrange a time. When he found out I was in trouble, he rushed over to help. He did everything you should have done. You shouldn't treat him with such hostility. He's not a bad person!"
There was still a hint of reproach in Ava's eyes towards Alexander. Every time this man met William, he was full of hostility, which put her in a difficult position.
"But you didn't tell me?" Alexander frowned, suppressing his anger, "If you had told me, would he have had to do all this?"
He picked up the box of fruit on the bedside table, his tone sour, "He even fed you fruit. Was that necessary?"
"What about you and Isabella? You personally accompanied her to the hospital and took care of her. You can boldly ask for a divorce to marry her and accuse me of bullying her, so why can't I eat an apple fed by a man? Alexander, you can't be so hypocritical!"
She actually accused him of being hypocritical?!
This was different. William was not the same as Isabella.
He didn't think he was being hypocritical, but he couldn't find a reason to refute her. All he could do was swallow his anger.
"Fine, let's say we're getting a divorce. But we've known each other for ten years. You consider me a brother, and I consider you a sister. We have a bond. Shouldn't I be wary when there's a strange man around you?"
Ava didn't know what to say. This man always said things that left her speechless. If she said too much, they would argue again.
"Alex, whether you believe it or not, he and I are just friends. There's nothing between us like you think. He's a decent man; don't think of him in that way; he isn’t despicable.”
“So, you’re saying my thoughts are despicable?!"
"Alexander, why do you always have to argue with me? I clearly didn't mean that. Are you trying to provoke me?" Ava was so angry she clenched the blanket.
