Chapter 418 The Last Time

"What?" Ava was taken aback. "What happened?"

William lowered his gaze, his eyes filled with sorrow, and confided in Ava about something that happened in his childhood.

After listening, Ava fell into a deep silence, her eyes fixed on William with a solemn expression. Why did his father have to be so cruel?

"So, do you understand now?"

William's eyes showed a hint of exhaustion. "I don't want to resist anymore. I'm afraid he will hurt you. He is capable of anything, so I've changed my mind. I'm going to get married. I've said what I needed to say. I'll be going now."

William turned to leave.

Ava quickly stood up and grabbed his sleeve. "William, are you accepting your father's arrangement because you're worried about me?"

William turned around and gave her a gentle smile. "Ava, don't burden yourself. This is my fate. I need to follow the path that destiny has laid out for me. I know you're leaving, so you must go far away. It's best if we never see each other again. This might be the last time."

His words deeply moved Ava, and her emotions seemed to explode in her mind.

"No, this won't be the last time. Don't be so pessimistic."

Seeing Ava on the verge of tears, William reached up and gently wiped away the moisture from her eyes. "Please don't cry. I can't bear to see you cry. You've shed enough tears for others. I don't want to be that kind of jerk."

After speaking, William gently freed himself from Ava's grasp and left her home.

"William, where are you going?" Ava anxiously followed.

"Ava, don't follow me. Rest well. I'm begging you."

William choked out, then slammed the door shut.

Ava wanted to catch up, but she saw the determination in William's departure. Her presence would only cause him more trouble, and she currently was unable to solve the problems he was facing.

Ava returned to the sofa in the living room and let out a long sigh.

How could she leave when William was in such a situation?

Would she really never see him again?

Not long after, Ava's phone rang. She hoped it was William, but the caller ID showed Vicky's name.

She felt that it must be related to William, so she immediately answered the call and asked, "Hello, Vicky. How is your brother?"

On the other end of the phone, Vicky hesitated. "Ava, you're really concerned about my brother, asking about him right away."

"Of course, I'm worried. I know about your brother's situation."

"Yeah," Vicky sighed. "I do know. After my brother gets married, it might be my turn. I don't know what to do. All these years, my dad hasn't paid much attention to me because my brother was always in the spotlight. But now I feel like I'm in a difficult situation, too."

"What about your mother? Doesn't she have a say in this?"

"What can she say?" Vicky smiled bitterly. "My mom doesn't care about anything. She's supposed to be a loving mother. However, to be frank, she can't be bothered with the affairs of the house. Her relationship with my dad is not good. They've been giving each other the cold shoulder for so many years."

Ava remained silent, realizing the truth.
Such was the impact of an unhappy household. How much tragedy could it breed?
