Chapter 1006

"Watch out!" Stella immediately supported him.

Alexander was momentarily startled and turned to look at her.

However, what he saw was the snow piled up in the yard. Father Ben hurriedly ran towards him. "Father Alexander, didn't I tell you to lift your foot when crossing the threshold? You fell again, didn't you?"

"Let me see if you're hurt."

Alexander felt a pang of sorrow. His tears streamed down uncontrollably.

He shouted, "Father Ben."

Stella had never seen Alexander like this. Her heart was breaking. She suddenly felt deep regret.

Why had she entangled with Wyatt for so long?

If she had drawn the line earlier, Alexander would have returned sooner.

She would have surely brought him back early.

That way, he wouldn't have so much guilt and regret.

Father Ben had previously instructed that after his passing, there should be no elaborate arrangements, no memorial service, just a direct cremation.

There was considerable disagreement among the church members about this.

However, in the end, Liam makes the final decision to respect Father Ben's wishes.

They kept vigil over Father Ben all night.

The next morning, Father Ben's body was cremated at the funeral home.

Liam brought the ashes back and placed them in the church cemetery.

On the day of the burial, after several days of clear weather, it suddenly poured rain.

Alexander and Stella, dressed in black, placed the flowers they had bought for Father Ben in front of the grave.

Liam stood to the side, saying, "Father Alexander, Father Ben left you some things and the books you copied since childhood; he had Mason dry them for you a few days ago. Take them with you when you leave."

"Alright." Alexander nodded lightly.

"Don't blame yourself for Father Ben's death," Liam suddenly said, "It was God's will."

That morning, Father Ben woke up early and was in good spirits. He even wanted to attend the morning service.

He found a set of new clothes, changed into them, and took a sip of water before leaving. He choked a bit.

Suddenly, he started coughing up blood uncontrollably.

In the end, the medicine Alexander had to prolong life was never used.

Alexander remained silent, but his heart was still heavy with guilt.

Liam had many matters to attend to, so it was Mason who took Stella and Alexander to get the books.

"Alexander, Mason, and I will wait for you outside." Stella gently patted Alexander's back a few times.

"Alright." Alexander looked at her and forced a smile.

After he went inside, Stella and Mason sat under the eaves.

The rain was still pouring down.

Stella glanced at Mason.

Mason must have liked Father Ben a lot, too. He had lost so much weight these past few days, and his eyes were swollen like walnuts.

Stella raised her hand to touch his head, saying, "Mason, you've been amazing these past few days, helping out a lot more than I did."

"Stella, Father Ben must not be in pain anymore, right?" Mason asked, "Do you think he met my parents?"

Stella's heart trembled.

"Probably not," Mason answered his question, "I hope not. It's been so many years; I hope my parents have been reborn into a good family and are happy children."

"Of course!" Stella immediately said, "Mason, you pray at the church every day. Your parents must have been reborn into a good family, becoming wealthy and happy children."

"Really?" Mason looked at Stella, then pouted, "Actually, I'm not very devout. I always slack off!"

Stella remained silent.
