Chapter 475 A Suspicious Character

"Fiona, do you know that guy?" Laura noticed the man's presence as well, but his smile unsettled her, prompting her to lean in close to Fiona and inquire in a hushed tone.

Fiona shook her head. "I don't know him."

With that, she got into the car.

The man remained standing still.

As Fiona’s Bentley passed by, his eyes remained greedily fixed on the interior through the window.

"Mr. Steven," once the Bentley was a fair distance away, a sleazy, plump man approached from nearby.

"Kid, do you know what the real elite are like?" The man's tongue swept across his yellowed teeth, his smile bearing a troubling fierceness.

The plump man shook his head.

"That car that just drove by—we couldn't earn that much in our lifetimes," the man spoke, his gaze becoming increasingly sinister. "Life really isn't fair, huh? One brother lives like that, with such a pretty wife. The other lives like a ghost, and his wife..."

At the mention of wife, a surge of revulsion halted in the man's eyes.

‘How could you compare that fishwife to the woman in that car just now?’

"Mr. Steven, we better head back. The boss who brought you didn't want you wandering off, did he?" the plump man said cautiously.

That boss was generous.
He was just accompanying Steven to Bay City, and the boss had given him a salary of ten thousand dollars.

“What kind of bullshit boss is he?” Steven scoffed.

If it hadn't been for last night when the craving hit him and he tried to sneak out for a drink, he wouldn't have known that the top tycoon who always appeared on the news was actually his brother.

A week ago, a few self-important jerks had found him at his card-playing haunt.

He had been having a streak of bad luck, losing a few thousand dollars, and the bullying bastards at the gambling den, seeing he couldn't pay up, were about to get rough.

They paid off his debt for him.

Steven knew they were somebody important and tried to bow and scrape to invite them over to his place.

They clearly looked down on him.

They declined his offer. Then, they cut to the chase.

"Mr. Steven, we have a client who's sick. Your blood type matches his, so we'd like you to come to Bay City for a compatibility test. If it's a match, my client will pay you one million dollars for your trouble."

“A million?” Steven was completely dumbfounded.

He had never seen that kind of money in his entire life.

"Of course, this is just the fee for your well-being. If the tissue match is successful, we'll also pay for your nutrition and such."

Then, right there, they pulled out two hundred thousand dollars in cash to show their sincerity.

Upon seeing the cash, Steven didn’t hesitate for a second and agreed.

Once he arrived in Bay City, those people kept a very tight leash on him.

They wouldn't even let him smoke or drink.

Until last night, he couldn’t take it anymore and sneaked out.

Just by chance, he bumped into the man who had paid him, chatting with a colleague.

“It’s crazy. He’s Darwin’s brother, but look at him, he’s nothing like Darwin.”

"You can say that again. And yet, Charles's life depends on him."

"A million makes him that happy, but if he knew about his brother’s and sister-in-law’s assets, how massive they are, can you imagine?"

"We can't let a lowlife like him find out. If the match isn’t successful, fine, but if it is, who knows what trouble he'll stir up."

“Just keep it between us, okay? Tight-lipped. He’s got nowhere to get that info from.”

At that moment, Steven was completely thrown.

His urge for a drink left him, and he just turned around and headed back.
He sat on the couch for a while before pulling out his beaten-up phone and searching for Darwin's name.

After reading the internet profiles on Darwin.

Steven didn't sleep a wink all night.

After Steven searched for Darwin, TikTok started bombarding him with videos related to Darwin.

Among them were a bunch about Darwin’s wife and kids.

As he watched the revealed luxury life of the Darwin couple online, those castles, estates, luxury cars, and jewelry, the blood in Steven’s veins seemed to boil.

The following day, Steven stumbled upon a video claiming that Darwin's wife was conducting business in a skyscraper.

He quickly gathered his guys and slipped out.

After staking out all day, he finally saw the woman rumored to hold billions in wealth.

These past few days, Fiona always had these tasty candies in her car.

“Chicago left you candies again today!” Laura picked one up.

The candy wrapper had scribbles redrawn with colored pencils.

Fiona smiled. “She said to share them with Moon Sister.”

Ever since Charles had that massive nosebleed, Chicago probably didn't want her to feel sad or anxious.
She made sure to leave some candies in her car every day.

Laura unwrapped the candy paper and popped the candy into her mouth; the creamy sweetness was particularly comforting.

Fiona also unwrapped a piece, put it in her mouth, and continued chatting about work with Laura.

As they talked, the man who had appeared in the parking lot just before flickered past them again.

She always had an unsettling premonition.

She pulled out her phone and dialed Xavier's number.

The call connected quickly. “Madam.”

"How are Chicago and Charles doing today?" Fiona asked.

"Mr. Charles just came up from the Informatics Department and is resting after taking his medicine; Ms. Chicago is studying," Xavier reported.

"There have been too many close calls lately; you all need to be extra careful," Fiona instructed.

“Is something the matter on your end, Madam?” Xavier inquired sharply.

"No, just a bit worried, that's all."

"Rest assured, we will keep the Mr. Charles and Ms. Chicago."

"Thank you for your efforts."

Laura thought for a moment, then asked, "It was that man in the parking lot that made you uncomfortable, right?"
"Too many things have been happening recently; it's been really stressful." Fiona massaged her temples.

"At RH Company, the major issues have mostly been resolved. I'll handle what I can on my own from now on, and I'll only come to you with things that are beyond me," Laura promptly said.

It would only be another year or two before Fiona would undoubtedly have to take over the Rhoads family business.

At that time, she genuinely planned to leave Monsoon Investment in Laura’s hands.

"Alright," Fiona agreed.

As the sweltering summer heat intensified, Fiona's unease grew. It wasn't solely due to the unsettling smile from the man earlier, but also because of the imminent arrival of the compatibility test results.

After dropping Laura off at the studio, Fiona was about to leave when she spotted a tall and thin teenager loitering in flip-flops outside the studio, near the wall previously damaged by Darwin's car.

Fiona was about to park and ask if he needed help.

That’s when a nearby patrol officer approached.

The teen took off at the sight of the officer, vanishing without a trace.
