Chapter 1256
Darwin knew exactly what that idiot Tiberius was up to.
He couldn't bring himself to commit suicide, but getting someone else to do it? Way easier.
As he sank into the water, the suffocating feeling made Darwin feel oddly relaxed and free.
He paused for a moment, lost in his memories.
Darwin remembered meeting Aiden ages ago, when Aiden swam towards him in that fake lake, like he was inviting him to dive deeper.
Just then, a small figure jumped into the lake, breaking Aiden's image, and swam towards him.
From that day on, Darwin found a new purpose in life.
In his final moments, Aiden, who had only appeared for a brief instant, faded into the depths of his mind.
Fiona finished reading the diary, her emotions all over the place.
She felt a burning rage inside but had no idea where to direct it.
Finally, she closed the diary, grabbed a plastic bag from the storage box, and put the diary inside.
After a moment of silence, she clenched her fist and pounded the steering wheel.
Right then, Hubert called.
Fiona took a deep breath and answered, "I was just about to call you."
"What's up?" Hubert asked.
"You go first," Fiona said, trying to gather her thoughts.
"We talked all morning," Hubert said. "It went well. He now knows that Aiden is just a hallucination and understands why he exists and who he really is."
"Who is he?" Fiona asked immediately.
"He's Darwin, and he's also Aiden," Hubert sighed. "He merged the most painful parts of both of them, and that's how he was born."
Hearing that, Fiona's heart broke.
"It's a good thing," Hubert continued. "At least for now, everything is better than I expected."
"Hubert, did he mention the diary to you?" Fiona asked.
Hubert was surprised. "You know about the diary? When did he tell you?"
Fiona took a deep breath. "He didn't tell me. I went to the safe deposit box today and found a box in my name. I thought Darwin might have put something in it, so I took it out to check."
"Is it Aiden's diary?" Hubert asked.
"Yeah," Fiona replied.
Hubert said, "This diary has a huge impact on Darwin. He doesn't remember most of it. He only told me that Brooke was always abusing Aiden at home and punishing him severely."
"Yeah," Fiona said, struggling to breathe.
It was the combination of the most painful parts of both of them. So, when Darwin said Aiden was always being abused, Fiona knew that Darwin hadn't been abused as a child.
Fiona thought, 'Wait.'
"Hubert, did Brooke ever hit Darwin?" she asked seriously.
Hubert was momentarily confused. "Probably not."
