Chapter 1478

"Does your dad know?" Fiona put down her fork.

Charlotte glanced at Charles from the corner of her eye. He seemed oblivious, focused on picking bones out of the fish on his plate.

"Yeah, he knows and has met him," Charlotte replied.

"Make sure to bring him home for us to meet before the wedding," Fiona added.

"Okay," Charlotte agreed obediently.

Melissa sat there, looking completely stunned.

"Gabriel's first love started and ended just like that," Scarlet teased.

The atmosphere quickly warmed up again.

Charlotte kept her head down, eating, but she could feel someone's gaze on her. She looked up helplessly.

It was Chicago.

She frowned slightly, her expression full of confusion.

After lunch, as expected, Chicago cornered Charlotte in her room.

"Who is he?" she asked, frowning. "I've met your team members before. Who is he? Oh, I get it, you're just trying to appease Janna, right?"

Charlotte shook her head. "It's real."

Chicago felt a strange sense of frustration and anger.

"Who?" she asked again. "Charlotte, you once told me you cherish every moment of being alive and would never let yourself down!"

Charlotte took out her phone. It was an old model, with a cracked corner.

Chicago looked at it, exasperated. She knew Charlotte wasn't short on money. Charlotte had no worldly desires; all her energy and money went into her work with insects.

She pulled up a photo. It was a picture of her in a white shirt and a light green skirt, standing next to a blond, blue-eyed man.

Chicago took the phone and looked at it.

"Are you serious?"

"Yeah," Charlotte nodded.

"Do you love him?" Chicago's voice suddenly choked up. She remembered that night when Charlotte cried so hard and then stopped coming to Emerald Pool. Over the years, Charlotte had lived like she was punishing herself, as if enjoying life even a little bit was a betrayal.

"Chicago, not everyone finds love. Charlotte gently touched Chicago's face, tears welling up in her eyes. "Especially someone like me."

"Someone like you? What do you mean?" Chicago demanded loudly, her eyes turning red.

"He's a good person, you don't need to worry about me," Charlotte said softly.

"Not until I meet him! You can't marry him until I meet him!" Chicago started crying. She just felt like Charlotte was being wronged.

"Okay, when I go back, will you come with me?" Charlotte patiently coaxed her.

"Okay!" Chicago said, hugging Charlotte and sobbing quietly.

She wanted to ask. Why did Charlotte cry so hard that night? What had happened?

Leaving Charlotte's room, Chicago looked like a wilted flower, her head hanging low. She hadn't walked far when she bumped into someone.

Looking up, she felt even more upset. "Charles."

Charles reached out, took her by the wrist, and led her to a quiet corner.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

Chicago was loyal. She wouldn't share her friend's private matters.

She just said, "I don't know. Charlotte getting married is a good thing, right? But I just feel so upset, my heart hurts."
