Chapter 1370
Paul was the prime suspect.
He worked with the cops for over three months, but they couldn't pin anything on him, so they closed the case in a hurry.
The day after the case was shut, he got home to find the place spotless and dinner ready.
His parents had been treating him like crap lately.
Today, when they saw him come back, they lit up and said, "Your girlfriend came over. She's a hard worker and quick, though a bit young. She's way better than those women you pick up at bars! You should settle down; women from those places are just trouble."
Before Paul's mom could finish her rant, Paul saw Odette coming out of the dining room with a fresh dish.
She smiled at him and said, "You're back? Perfect timing, let's eat."
Paul was freaked out, but his parents were thrilled.
He couldn't blow up in front of his parents.
That night, Odette didn't leave.
Paul wanted to throw a fit. He was young, impulsive, and hadn't had sex in three months. Odette was very forward, and somehow, they ended up in bed.
Afterward, Paul coldly said, "We've already broken up. This isn't right. Don't come here again."
Odette's face immediately darkened.
Too much time had passed, and Paul couldn't remember everything they talked about that night.
But there was one thing Odette said that stuck with him: "I know it's not your fault; those women seduced you."
A pair of cold hands caressed his face. "Don't be afraid. If one dies, the next one will, too. It's not your fault. You'll always come back to me."
Paul immediately pushed Odette away. "Was it you... who killed Paula?"
The lights were off that night.
But moonlight streamed in. Odette sat up, her innocent face expressionless, but to Paul, she looked like the terrifying heroine of a horror movie.
Odette said, "She was shameless, always having sex with different men. Her body was filthy; it needed to be washed clean."
Thinking of how Paula had drowned, Paul screamed in horror.
Odette immediately lunged at him, covering his mouth. "Don't scream! You'll wake your parents!"
Then she rubbed her cheek against his. "As long as you're good and always love me, I won't hurt you. I love you."
Wyatt was always good at telling stories.
This time, he was even more vivid.
With only one light on in the living room, the atmosphere was even more eerie.
But Fiona didn't show much expression.
Wyatt felt defeated. "You're really no fun. Didn't Darwin say you were the most scared of horror movies? You always had to hide in his arms when watching them."
"You guys really talk about everything?" Fiona was speechless.
"I just happened to mention that my girlfriend at the time was timid and couldn't watch even slightly gory movies. Then he suddenly said, 'Fiona's the same way; she hides in my arms when watching horror movies.'" Wyatt even mimicked Darwin's expression when he said it.
Fiona fell silent.
"I was acting," Fiona said, steering the conversation back. "What happened next?"
Wyatt said, "Next, she went from controlling just him to controlling the whole family. After Paul's mom's health deteriorated from taking too much medication and his dad suddenly broke a bone, the family's fear of Odette reached its peak. They packed up and, while Odette was out, fled together. They never returned to Bay City for decades!"
Fiona asked, "Did his mom's health improve after they escaped?"
