Chapter 1146

Everything in the room was just like she left it.

Trash can was empty.

She made a beeline for the bathroom.

The humidity was still hanging in the air.

The smell of body wash and shampoo hit her hard.

Someone had just taken a shower.

Fiona took a deep breath, spun around, and headed for the door.

She had put in this password lock herself.

It was for Darwin, who hated lugging around keys.

Even though it had been a few years, she had picked the top-of-the-line model with all the bells and whistles.

Fiona punched in the admin password and checked the door logs.

Two fingerprint entries today: one from two hours ago, Darwin's, and one from hers.

Before that, the housekeeper had used a temporary password.

Then there was another entry from Darwin, matching the day he came back smelling like a pharmacy.

Fiona licked her dry lips.

After standing at the door for a moment, she headed to the master bedroom's walk-in closet.

She opened the door.

She didn't need to look closely to know two sets of Darwin's clothes were missing.

One set he wore today, and the other must have been taken last time.

Had he gotten his memory back?

Fiona felt all kinds of mixed up. Something was off.

After thinking for a moment, she called the property manager.

Even though it was late, the manager picked up right away.

"Sorry to bug you so late," Fiona said, "I've lost something and need to check the elevator surveillance."

About ten minutes later, she was in the surveillance room downloading the day's footage.

Using Darwin's homecoming time as a reference, she estimated a specific timeframe.

Returning to the apartment, she reviewed the footage based on her estimation.

Before long, the footage revealed Darwin stepping into the elevator.

He was lugging a trash bag full of stuff.

Fiona fast-forwarded the footage.

She found the moment Darwin arrived.

When she saw the footage, she was floored.

There were bloodstains on his hands and weird marks on his pants.

The clothes he wore that day were MIA when Fiona looked for them later.

Suddenly, a myriad of overlooked details clicked in her mind: the injured wrist that never healed, the persistent smell of medicine on him, the missing cane, and the day he vanished for an entire day.

Fiona sat in the chair, feeling like she had plunged into a cold abyss.

Despite her efforts, she couldn't piece together what had happened to Darwin.

But a bad feeling gripped her.

She turned off the computer and went downstairs.

"Mrs. Solomon, what's wrong? You look awful," Christopher said, startled.

"Take me home," Fiona said, then went quiet.

Christopher stayed silent.

Gentle people were the scariest when they were mad.

Had Darwin really betrayed Fiona?
