Chapter 527 Perfume
Moments later, the thugs and Justin, along with his son, were all expelled from the premises.
"Playing kiss-ass like that, do you really think they'll take you seriously?" Walker, with his sharp tongue, dove right into mockery.
In the eyes of Mac and the others, these thugs were as insignificant as sprouts. Yet, when it came to handling Walker, the sprouts were more than enough.
One of the thugs lifted his foot and planted it squarely in Walker's chest.
Walker was practically sent flying.
He hit the ground, clutching his chest, howling in pain.
"What the hell are you doing?" Justin blanched in shock, but he didn't dare say anything too provocative. He sure as hell didn't want to be on the receiving end of that kick.
"Lousy piece of shit," the thug spat on Justin. "You gave a bunch of grand, almost sent me to an early grave!"
Justin felt a chill run down his spine.
"Is he just a pretty boy? Are you guys really that scared?" he asked.
"Pretty boy?" The thug looked stunned. "Isn't that woman your wife's kid? Doesn't that make him your son-in-law, too? Don't you know who he is?"
A jolt of fear struck Justin's heart.
Indeed, he had never inquired about the man's background. He only had vague knowledge from Chris and the others that this fellow was a gold digger after Thalassa's money.
"Who… who is he?"
"Ever heard of the Walker family from North Alabama?" The thug emphasized every word, then reached out to pat Justin's pale face. "He's Kenny of that family!"
"No way!"
Walker was in agony.
Struggling, he continued to deny it.
"What kind of a league is the Walker family from North Alabama? Not even those overseas tycoons can compare. Would a guy from such a family fall for someone as dumb as Thalassa?"
Walker and Thalassa were about the same age. However, from the time Thalassa stepped into the family home, she was always one step ahead of him academically. Even in terms of the universities they applied to, hers was far superior to his. And after graduation, her situation only improved. Out of nowhere, she had a tycoon bestie and, with the perks that came with that, she started her own business right after graduating, thriving ever since. It all seemed as though she was doing it just to show him up.
Designer bags, diamonds, jade, houses, cash—Thalassa showered Maria with gifts like water. Every time he received something from Thalassa, it was a guarantee that during family dinners, his father would preach to him, urging him to learn from Thalassa.
She was just lucky, blessed with a generous bestie. Without that, she was nothing.
"You'd better pray for your own sake. Let me give you a heads-up, Mr. Kenny has been dissecting living beings since he was a child. You mess with his wife, and you're as good as dead."
With that said, the thug and his crew walked away.
The wind tousled the hair of Justin and his son, leaving them a disheveled duo in its wake.
"No way!" Walker was still in denial. "What kind of trash is he to even know people from the North Alabama Walker family? It has to be a mistake! Thalassa worthy? Please."
Justin's complexion, however, had paled considerably.
Because when he pieced together recent events, he could see the Walker family's shadow looming within them. Like the time Crystal offended Thalassa and took the elderly to seek medical care, they were turned away by hospitals affiliated with the Solomons, those under the Rhoads family, and all facilities using the AP medical system.
This AP medical system, it seemed to have originated from the Walker family.
"Dad!"
When Walker saw Justin zoning out, he picked himself up and approached,."What should we do now?"
"You are right, Mr. Kenny from the Walker family wouldn't fall for a morally corrupt woman like Thalassa," Justin uttered deliberately.
"Dad, what do you mean?" Walker clutched his chest." It aches so bad, feels like my bones are broken. Take me to the hospital, please!"
"You go on your own. I need to visit your brother's place," Justin replied, then left Walker, who clutched his chest as though in excruciating pain, and drove away in his car.
Cursing under his breath, Walker watched helplessly as his father left, then called a cab and headed to the hospital himself.
Inside the villa, Thalassa stood in the living room.
Though the villa was a standalone property, it wasn’t overly large. Thalassa had previously scoffed at its modest size for a standalone, especially the living room which she found lacking in grandeur.
Her eyes reddened as she looked around.
During her last rushed visit, Thalassa hadn't taken the time to truly observe the house.
Maria had been meticulous, but now the disorder visible to the naked eye spoke of troubling times – her final days were clearly harsh, too chaotic to maintain her usual standard of elegance.
"Would you like some water?" Kenny’s voice was soft.
"Yes." Thalassa nodded. "Over there..."
With a nod, Kenny made his way to the kitchen.
And once he was gone, Thalassa turned to Fiona. "Burl told me there were other victims?"
Fiona nodded. "Right before coming here, I confirmed there's one more victim than yesterday."
Then, succinctly, Fiona recounted how Anne was violated, forced to break up with her boyfriend, and eventually how they were both horrifically killed – all relayed to an aghast and enraged Thalassa.
"He's a monster, worse than any beast!" Thalassa exclaimed, flabbergasted by the cruelty.
"The thing is, he did it so cleanly, there wasn't any evidence left behind in those three cases," Fiona said, disgust written all over her face.
Thalassa seemed struck by a thought.
"Wait a minute, Chris told me his grandparents died in an accident shortly after he was born. Both of them gone, just like that," she shared.
After a brief pause, their gazes met.
They were in sync.
"With them alive, they would've been a barrier to Justin inheriting everything," Fiona said gravely.
A shiver ran down Thalassa's spine.
"How many people has he actually killed?"
"Have you managed to pull yourself out of sadness and despair?" Fiona asked, her voice heavy with concern.
Thalassa met her gaze. "Do you have a plan?"
"Yes." Fiona nodded without hesitation.
"I'm in," Thalassa declared firmly.
"Good," Fiona agreed.
Just then, Kenny returned empty-handed.
"All the cups are dirty. Forget it, let's not drink the water here. Do you want to take her things and then we head home?"
"Grab some of her clothes that she wore often," Fiona directed both herself and Thalassa.
Thalassa responded and quickly went upstairs.
Maria rarely wore the same outfit twice, but she had plenty in the same style.
Thalassa carefully selected a few pieces.
As he was about to leave, Fiona appeared.
"Take her perfumes as well," she instructed.
In dim lighting, people are more likely to recognize someone by their scent rather than their appearance.
At Maria's perfume collection, Thalassa picked up two bottles.
"This one could come in handy for us," Thalassa said, holding a barely used bottle with conviction as he handed it to Fiona.
