Chapter 1329
On her way back, Fiona couldn't shake off what Vespera had said about Aiden's sudden and mysterious relapse.
Aldrich was a stickler for details. If he let Aiden go home, and Aiden was living alone with Marisole, it meant he was doing well enough.
So why did Aiden relapse out of the blue?
Lost in thought, Fiona got a message from Emrys.
To outsiders, Vespera seemed like just a servant, but she was the one who raised Darwin. Now that she was gone, Fiona, as Darwin's wife, should go pay her respects.
Fiona quickly contacted Charles and Chicago's teachers to arrange for the kids to take a leave of absence.
Early the next morning, Fiona took Charles and Chicago to Vespera's funeral.
As soon as Fiona arrived at the door, she heard a woman's heart-wrenching cry from inside. "How do you raise your kids? Grandma finally woke up, and he took her on a long drive to the Mitchell Family! He wore her out! It's too much!"
"Exactly, and Grandma gave him her house in Bay City and those jewelry pieces. Does he even deserve them?" Another man's voice chimed in. "I think after Grandma woke up, she wanted to change her will. He found out and was afraid the house and gold wouldn't be his, so he deliberately took Grandma out to exhaust her, ensuring his inheritance!"
The man shouted, "Emrys, say something! Don't just stay silent!"
"Mommy." Chicago held Fiona's hand, looking up at her in confusion.
Fiona smiled and patted her head.
Then she knocked on the door.
A middle-aged woman standing near the door turned her head. Seeing Fiona, her expression instantly changed from fierce to fawning. She called out, "Mrs. Solomon!"
Fiona nodded slightly at her and said calmly, "Emrys told me Vespera passed away. Darwin is busy and can't come back, so he asked me to bring the kids to pay their respects."
The middle-aged woman's smile was so wide it seemed like her face might break. The small yard was almost packed with people.
Now they were all eagerly looking at Fiona.
Earlier, when Emrys said Darwin's wife was coming, no one believed it.
How could a billionaire entrepreneur come to mourn a deceased old housekeeper?
Fiona held Charles and Chicago's hands as she entered, her gaze not lingering on the crowd but looking at Emrys standing in the corner, asking gently and with concern, "Emrys, what happened to your face?"
Emrys's parents stood beside him, their eyes red and swollen, with tears still fresh on their faces.
"Mrs. Solomon, Emrys practically wore Vespera out over the little property she left behind!" the middle-aged woman shouted.
"Don't scare my son and daughter," Fiona spoke.
Her tone was not as gentle as when she spoke to Emrys.
The middle-aged woman's shout caught in her throat. She awkwardly cleared it and then glanced at Charles and Chicago.
It was unlikely that they would be scared by this.
Yet Chicago looked at the middle-aged woman and couldn't help but dislike her.
"Vivienne, can you stop talking nonsense? How could Grandma be exhausted to death by Emrys? She had a smile on her face when she passed away. Her body hasn't even been cremated yet. I can take Mrs. Solomon to see it!" Emrys's mother, Marigold Delaney, cried.
