Chapter 1218

Hearing Fiona say that the hallucination had a childhood similar to Darwin's, Hubert instinctively thought of many cases where the hallucinations patients experienced were deeply wounded versions of their childhood selves.

But why would Darwin's hallucination be Aiden, a guy he barely knew?

"Because of Aiden, he got hurt a bunch of times," Fiona went on. "The first time they met, Darwin got hit by a bike trying to save him. Later, at the park, his hand injury got worse."

Fiona filled Hubert in on all the injuries Darwin had because of Aiden.

She kept talking until she got to last night.

Fiona's hand was clenched so tight that Hubert could see the veins popping out.

"What happened last night?" Hubert asked softly.

Fiona raised her hand and took off the scarf around her neck.

After a whole day, the bruises had spread and looked even worse.

Hubert was shocked and jumped up. "Did Darwin do this?"

Fiona looked down sadly. "He ran out to find that kid again last night. I rushed out with some people to look for him and found him in the park where we first met. Somehow, he had fallen into the water. I went in to save him. He was already unconscious and sinking."

She added, "Just as I was about to pull him up, he suddenly woke up. It was like he turned into someone else, his face full of hatred for me. He wrapped his arm tightly around my neck."

Just talking about it made her feel like she was suffocating all over again. "The people I brought with me got into the water in time to save me. Otherwise, we both might have died there last night."

"Are you okay?" Hubert asked gently.

Fiona looked at him, her eyes red and her face pale. She shrugged. "Not really. So, Dr. Hubert, please help me."

Hubert's eyes widened a bit. "I'll do my best."

"You've been researching for so long. Is there any medication that can temporarily stabilize him? I don't need it for long, just two days," Fiona asked urgently.

She didn't know when these days would end. So, she wanted to complete the family's agreed-upon matters as much as possible before Darwin's condition worsened.

"Yes." Hubert nodded. "But this medication is for emergencies. Long-term use can lead to dependency. It can keep things normal for a bit, but once tolerance builds up and the condition comes back, it could be twice as bad."

Hubert tried to explain it simply.

"Not much, just two days." Fiona nodded lightly. "Also, about the confidentiality of the treatment."

"Don't worry, I'll only involve the people I trust the most. No one will disclose Darwin's condition." Hubert nodded understandingly.

Fiona thought for a moment and then asked, "Who is Ms. Everhart?"

Hubert sighed. "She is Marisole's niece, Rose."

"I knew it." Fiona frowned. "Then she can't be involved in the treatment."

"She's just my assistant; she won't be involved in the treatment process. You don't need to worry." Hubert paused.

He added, "Rose doesn't have any bad feelings towards Darwin. Her mom had a congenital heart problem. After Marisole passed away, her mom got pregnant out of wedlock and met a bad guy. Grandma Mitchell helped her out. Her mom passed away a few years later, and Rose grew up in a foster family arranged by Grandma Mitchell. She's known about her aunt and uncle's situation since she was a kid. Later, she found out about Darwin's background from Grandma Mitchell. She wanted to study psychology but didn't have the talent for it. So, Grandma Mitchell got her into my research institute."

"I've heard Brooke loves adopting kids, not just from the Solomon family but also from the Mitchell family. I didn't expect there to be more outside," Fiona said with a bitter smile.
