Chapter 1096

"He'll make his own judgment once he understands the stakes," Darwin said, placing his phone on the table. "Don't we owe Charles and Chicago a camping trip? When I woke Chicago up this morning, she mentioned it several times."

"Yeah," Fiona said, lightly tapping her forehead. "I totally forgot!"

"Chicago dreamed about catching fireflies while camping last night," Darwin said with a smile, "We probably won't make it before school starts, but I'll check the weather forecast and we'll take them afterward, okay?"

"Okay." Fiona nodded.

Her gaze casually fell on Darwin's injured wrist. He was wearing a shirt, and the sleeve covered his wrist completely. "How's the wound?"

"What wound? It's just a scratch, probably healed now," Darwin said nonchalantly and then changed the subject back to camping.

The next morning, at dawn, the baker Wyatt had hired arrived.

After a flurry of activity, a cheesecake was ready before Stella woke up. The baker then left quietly.

Stella looked like she hadn't slept all night, appearing even more exhausted than when she first arrived.

The servant quickly brought breakfast.

Alexander glanced at it and noticed a delicate cake. "Is it someone's birthday today?"

The servant shook her head. "Mrs.  Solomon ordered it. She said Mrs. Beaumont loves it."

Stella snapped back to reality and looked at the cake.

It wasn't the kind she used to eat often, so she didn't think much of it.

She felt bitter, and she did want something sweet. So Stella picked up a small spoon and took a bite.

The familiar taste spread across her taste buds, and Stella froze for a moment. She stared at the cake, momentarily stunned, realizing where the cake came from.

She didn't say anything but put down the spoon and didn't touch the cake again.

Fiona woke up early and checked on Jessie's recovery.

When she returned, she saw the servant taking away the cake with one bite missing.

"Don't you like it anymore?" Fiona asked openly as she walked over.

Stella shook her head. "I loved it as a child, but I got over it for years. It's too sweet."

Wyatt was still trying to annoy her!

"Alexander, I want some cake." Stella then looked at Alexander. "Not too sweet, something refreshing."

Alexander was very perceptive.

When Stella put down the spoon after the first bite, he guessed who had sent the cake.

As long as she was pleased, he would be happy if she finished the cake. But since she didn't eat it and seemed to dislike it, he was even happier.

"Okay, be good and wait for me. I'll go buy it," Alexander said, patting Stella's head and then looking at Fiona.

Fiona nodded slightly.

Then, Alexander left.

"Are you feeling any better?" Fiona sat down next to her.

Stella lowered her eyes, sighed deeply, and gently shook her head. "It'll probably take a long time, but life goes on. I can't let Alexander spend every day just watching over me, right?"
